Day 168 - Bed Bugs!

Saturday, September 14, 2013

What a crazy day today! Major Gross!!!

All week, other staff were cleaning and quarentining a client's bedroom of bed bugs. Whew! I didn't need to...until the bug man showed up and said we still had more work to do, ugh!

So, I moved a blanket off the client's recliner and immediately saw two bed bugs crawling for cover - gross! The bug man did come back and did spray the room, but we had to move more clothes and items into bags and then store them in the garage. Sigh....so gross! There were bugs everywhere! Most were dead and no telling how long these bugs were in his room! The client kept breaking out in what looked like hives and we just couldn't figure out what he may have gotten himself into. We tried Benadryl and creams. We also got him hypoallergenic products but just couldn't figure out the cause.

After the bugs were discovered, the client did say that he had seen them for quite some time and that sometimes he can feel them bite him in the middle of the night. Eeeew! He said that he would smack them...but he never once told us staff that he had bugs!!!

I immediately took a shower when I got home. In fact, I stripped down in the laundry room and started the load in HOT water and streaked upstairs! (giggle) thank goodness no one was home!

I am hoping that by Wednesday when I go back to that home, his room and furnishings are back in order. I also HOPE that staff does a thorough job in cleaning all the non laundry items that we bagged up and stored in the garage! I think for the next six months or so, I will be paranoid about entering his room...I will definitely not sit in his recliner again! Staff did toss out his bed...he's been sleeping on the couch and a new bed has been ordered.

The other staff and I checked the other clients bedrooms and thank goodness we did not see any bugs there. Whew!

Hopefully I won't get a nightmare of a huge bug chasing me or infesting my home! LOL

Wow! Considering he had them for so long, everyone is really lucky they did not spread to the common areas of the house and then all the other bedrooms. I bet you're glad you put that day behind you!

Yikes! I have never seen one, but I am scared to death of them, especially if I stay in a hotel.

Glad they didn't spread to the other rooms!

Oh dear! Bed bugs suck. So gross. I had a scare at my house when friends who had been traveling out west for 6 weeks slept overnight before flying home. When arriving home they had terribly itchy bites that the doctor said where bed bugs. I had the bug man come to my house to make sure that I didn't have long term visitors.

He said that if I do any traveling, I should run all the clothes, even suitcase (duffel), etc. in the dryer on high heat for 20 minutes first thing upon arriving home. Good thing that you knew to do it!!! YUCK.
