The dawned sunny and cool, and shooters were at the range by 10 am. Three shooting events to challenge cowboys - knock down 6 tombstones from a mounted "horse", shot with a lever action rifle, best poker hand shot with a lever action rifle and knock down 6 tombstones with a revolver.
The trusty club cowpony all saddled up. Yes, another of the 1001 uses for an empty beer keg!
Here I am in my cowboy duds.
And of course- back in the saddle
Here I am shooting the tombstones from the horse from the back. The hand you see is the person holding the timer.
I got this event down to just over 8 seconds to shoot down all 6 tombstones in a row from the horse with a lever action .22 rifle.
The poker hand shoot was not timed, so you could pick out your hand, assuming you hit the right cards. I led the way with a Royal Flush. We had 7 people get Royal Flush's, so then we had a shoot off. This is all with a lever action 357 rifle, standing with a small peepsight. For the shoot off, it was done with a 357 revolver. I got 2 Kings for the shootoff, It got down to 2 guys with 3 aces each. One shoot it with one hand and got 3 aces and a Queen and another card. The other shot it two handed, got 3 aces but a 9 so he lost that event.
The third event was timed, had to knock down 6 tombstones with a 357 revolver while standing. Everyone shot it two handed. Here is what it looked like from the back.
You could use two guns, so if you missed a target when your first gun ran out out of six bullets you had to pick up the second gun to finish. I started at 28 seconds, and finally got it down to getting all six targets down with one gun in just over 9 seconds. i was very pleased with that score. We were shooting from 15 yards for all three events.

Dave's wife shot sidesaddle. They hit a thrift store by them and found some great clothes. Her skirt is actually curtains she just stitched up and added elastic around the waist. Very clever! Ruffles were already in place.
The sky was looking like rain around 1pm so we packed up and headed to the chuckwagon. There was a big campfire going with a grill and everyone tossed on whatever they had brought to grill. Managed to get our food eaten just about the time the serious rain hit.
Had a great time. Will have to hit the thrift stores earlier next year for better outfit and boots.
Headed for home to relax and kick back. Have the new Star Trek movie to watch later tonight or this weekend.
