The problem with fast food

Saturday, September 14, 2013

Today has been a high eat out day. I picked up some Perkins eclaires this morning because I knew my dad wanted them yesterday, so I got him one today (as well as my mother and me and one for the kids to split). Those are 500 calories a piece, but I love them! Fortunately I also don't have them more often than a couple of times a year.

Then I took my mom out to get some shopping done. She can't drive right now until her eyes are done being fixed, but I like being out with her, so we went. The girl behind the prescription counter actually called me Mom's daughter, that's a first, I'm usually being called her sister, but apparently either I'm looking younger or she's finally looking older. We ended up having lunch out, Arby's. I only had a sandwich and some of my daughter's fries and a couple of spoonfuls of a shake. Could have been worse.

But now I plan on having some leftovers from the Chinese food we had last night. Yep, I'm already up a pound just in sodium intake.

Fortunately not every day is like this. I picked a bunch of tomatoes off the plants at my mom's house, so I'm set for tomorrow. I do know I'm going to be over my calorie count for the day simply because I had the eclaire. I can get back on track tomorrow by making sure I have all the veggies I normally have. It will only be an issue for a couple of days, but I'll lose that water weight in a couple of days.

Today's Holidays: "The Waltons" premiered 1972, Festival of the Vine, Engineer's Day, Eat a Hoagie DAy and National Cream-Filled Donut Day.

I agree that it's okay to once in awhile throw caution to the wind. I'm not a big fan of fast food, but if eaten once in a great while, it can be a fun treat. It's only when you eat it every day that all the health problems ensue. It's how we eat the majority of the time that matters.

Even Dr. Oz encourages a cheat day once in a while so you don't get bored with your food and quit trying to eat healthy completely. As long as you don't do it every day you'll be okay. emoticon

One day is ok. The thing is just don't it slip to two or three etc. I personally think such a day, I had one yesterday, too, is sometimes a good thing. It boosts the metabolism and let's us indulge in the foods we normally don't eat.

I had pizza, two Mike's Hard Lemonade and two slices of being a double chocolate layer cake. I was still within my calorie range, but the calories were obviously empty and just fun of "junk."

Here's to healthier eating for us both! emoticon

Indulging is good. Looks like you did it in moderation today. And your attitude is terrific! emoticon

We al have to splurge once in a while. As long as we don't do it often. I'm sure you'll do fine the rest of the week. Have a good weekend.

I agree that it is a good thing we don't eat out every day! Hope you enjoyed every single bite of that food! I know I always cherish the treats since they are so infrequent!

You were just celebrating two of today's holidays -- Eat a Hoagie DAy and National Cream-Filled Donut Day (let's say a fast food sandwich is similar to a hoagie and an eclair is like a cream-filled donut...haha). You'll get back on track tomorrow and in the meantime glad you enjoyed the day!

It is amazing that going out to eat, the choices are lousy, high calorie and not too cheap either. Glad you had a treat, and will back into your routine.
The weather is cooling off at last here. I walk around the yard some,
avoiding the mole trails as best I can. Happy Autumn!

I'm still in Las Vegas at the moment and am being assaulted each day on the food and drink front.
I'm enjoying the holiday but shan't miss the food and drink culture here!! Cocktails for breakfast is morally wrong on so many levels.
Will have a catch up with you when I get home.
