suveniers from tunisia,leishmanoise
(photos)

Saturday, September 14, 2013

well this is definately not the blog i expected to write from our holiday in tunisia.as we were on the journey home ayman got high fever for two days and started coming out first a small red mark which quickly turned into a blister which in the same day became an open sore .we arrived home 4am tuesday morning so decided to get a bit of sleep first.when we woke up aymans fever had sunk to 37.9 but as i was concerned about well you will see the photos i decided to take him to the er as his specialist suggested me too(phoned them up as didnīt want to wait till their appointment on the 17th.the er said i did right coming to them.several skin drs and specialist from the hospital was called.they were quite excited and consulting books and computer.all were in agreement that he had leishmanoisebut as none of them have actually seen it in real life they canīt be 100% certain.as the hospital photographer was not their one of the drs took photos on his handy.they phoned the tropical infections institute and were going to send us there but they said all they would do is take a swap and next week if not better do a skin biopsey.to save us a trip there the hospital did a swap descovered ayman had a strep infection so gave him strong antibiotics.

aymans phototos.his has started to scab and dry.remember his came on monday

the first 4 photos are from aymans left arm and hand the last from his left leg .he also has one on the bend in his foot i forgot to take.

on thursday morning(first day back in school for zakariya and ayyub and zakariyas first day in a mainstream school)zakariya asked me is there was something on his back as it felt as if something was there.all i saw was a small red mark by 6 in the evening it was like you can see in his first photo below plus another one had come.lotfi said leave going to the hospital till tomorrow as there will be more staff on so wouldnīt have to wait so long.we could see it was like aymans.in the morning two more sores had come and ayyub also had a small one on his thumb which at first went into a massive blister then the open sore you see in the photo of his.it has since re blistered and poped at least 10 times.appently they can come and go to come back, lol.fun and games. went friday to er as i thought to go to the same place was the best, also the kids dr is still on holiday till the 29th.also with zakariyas being endocardio risk i thought better not to take chances.saw one of the drs we saw on tuesday plus saw several other drs who had heard we were back and came to look several bringing cameras to take photos and this time the hospital photographer so the hospital has their own personal photos as like i said no one there have ever seen it live ,lol.just in books etc.there seem a dr who was more knowledgable on the subject.sayinng they hgave reacently brought out a cream for this but we canīt get in this land lol.also apperantly they have just started a big study in tunisia on this.they gave zakariya antibiotics to be on the safe side because of his heart incase it gets infected like aymans did.ayyub became nothing.she also said that it can take 6-12 months for it to heal and will also leave scarring.i am just so glad that the kids donīt seem to have got it on their face..here is zakariyas photos.rememberwednesday there was no sign of anything.canīt remeber if i said what it actually is ,apparently they have been biten by a sand mostiquto.it leaves an infection that takes 4 weeks incubation to come out into what you see in the photos.

so ayyub is not left out a photo of ayyubs up to now only sore.

looking on the good side as i said earlier they havenīt got any on their face and only zakariya seems to be in pain with them.sorry for the quality of the photos we have a new camera and i donīt know how to do the zoom etc but you should get the picture and have a bit more knowledge about leishmanoise which until the kids got it i have never heard of it.

thanks for taking the time to read my blog and even more thanks if you take the time to reply.like i said i had hoped to write a differant holiday blog and i definately didnīt want this as a holiday suvenier, lol.take care and keep smiling.

Oh Karen....the LAST thing you need or wanted for your little angels. I am so sorry. VERY fortunate that their faces weren't affected. What a long recovery time if you will. Will more break out post incubation or you don't know? So much for a summer on the beach. emoticon

you just never know what you will encounter when travelling, I don't even know if there are vaccines available to protect against this one. Hope your children have a swift uncomplicated recovery

Looks like it is so uncomfortable. Yes, thankfully they don't have it on their faces. Amazing that a bite from a sand mosquito can cause such an infection. Hope the kids recover soon and that there are no new outbreaks. Take care and sending hugs to all.

Thanks for sharing your story and the pictures. Hope the kids feel better soon. That really looks painful. Not sure about Germany, here you have to have the open sore gone or note from the doctor that it's not contagious.
