The Long Road

In front of me is
the long road.
For most the long road is
just a road.
However, for me the
long road is freedom.
Freedom from obesity.
Freedom from self hatred.
Freedom from the
world’s control over me.
On the long road at the beginning
the first salt was tears.
Tears of pain.
Tears of sorrow.
Tears of regret for where I had
been and what I had become.
But as the long road become shorter
in distance, it housed my secrets.
It took my pain and gave me a reason
to travel the long road
back home.
After many miles on the long road
the salt was no longer tears.
The salt to sweet sweat.
Sweat that gave me courage
to continue on the journey.
Sweat that cleansed my soul.
Sweat that I came to love as
I traveled the long road.
The pants of breath from my over
worked lungs
replaced with a breeze
from the trees.
A breeze that at times
sends chills through the
But those chills make the long road
home so much sweeter.
The long road always
The long road always
the same but never
judging of me.
The sweetest love I have ever found
the self love that the long road
gave back to me.
For on the long road
you can not love another
till you can love yourself.
