Hydration streak

Thursday, September 12, 2013

I secretly tricked my co-worker into joining me for a water drinking streak.

After they were asking me why I have so many headaches and urging me to go to the doctor (I have a physical scheduled for later this month already), I had an idea. Yesterday I had explained that my migraines and headaches are lessened when I drink enough water - and I had a REVELATION that I haven't been drinking as much water because I'm trying to use a company-provided cup with a straw, and it makes me not like to drink very much.

Water is delicious and refreshing, I don't normally have trouble drinking enough. But I like my reusable bottles that have an opening for drinking vs. a straw. (It pours our like a plastic bottle.) There's something about having it clean my mouth that makes it more refreshing (or I'm just a crazy person).

So I washed and brought my bottle to work today. And then I used my experience here on Spark to find out if anyone wanted to drink more water and have a competition for each of us to reach our own daily goal.

I made a shared "Hydration" calendar in Outlook and added the girl that sits across from me. By the end of the day I added another person that doesn't work in my room anymore! :)

It's a little silly, and a reason for me to be dorky and make calendars.. it could fizzle out pretty quickly (especially if others don't find reward in it). But, it has revved my engine and made it more exciting to me.. like the first time I tracked my water on Spark and saw the little cup fill up! I loved it.

I want to see my calendar fill up with days that I've met my goal.

You totally have a strength for logistics, which is awesome! Great idea to get your co-workers involved - it's amazing how many people think about the need to drink more water daily, but never bother. Good on ya!

I like your water bottle where can I get it? Adding a pic to your blog is a great idea! Celeste and I were using Britai water bottles but then the filters were accidentally washed. When my sister told me about spark, she described the water glass filling up and said how cool it was. emoticon I went over to the spark site and thought it was emoticon the glass filling up impressed me and then I went on to explore the rest of the site. So see your not the only one. Your inspiring your co workers too. Your creative and emoticon

I would love to have someone to track my water intake with. It is one of the hardest things for me to be consistent with.

It's wonderful when the SPARK catches on at work too...I'm blessed with some awesome co-workers who like to take power walks at breaks and eat healthy foods.

Good for you! I was drinking to 25oz reusable bottles at work but they wore out so I bought one big 64oz bottle on amazon and have finished it every day since i got it mid week!

good idea..........................and you have given me a possibility that my recent increase in headaches is due to not drinking enough water....I will have to increase my consumption and see if that helps....thank you

As we say - whatever works!

I think water-drinking is kinda personal. I had people tell me for years that it was no good unless it was freezing cold, barely above ice level.

What a load o' BS.

The best form of water is the form you drink.

Case closed.

I am very partial to my water bottle, and in fact am a little out of sorts because it usually lives in my classroom, but I brought it home yesterday after Zumba and forgot it. Now I am stuck drinking out of my coffee mug.

I love the idea of challenges at work! I hope this helps with your headaches as well.
