Last Blog about the Cardiologist for Awhile/Update

His office finally called today with the results of my heart rate monitor test. I have an "elevated heart rate at intense activity levels."

NO DUH! That's why I went to see him in the first place!

Anyway I am going to start on a beta blocker which is supposed to reduce heart rate. The treadmill test has been postponed until after I get back. Now that he has prescribed a medication I guess I'll go ahead and take the test in October.

I am holding at 149 pounds. I am astounded. I haven't really been counting or tracking consistently, but just trying to be aware of WHAT and HOW MUCH I eat. Maybe this is becoming more intuitive?

Friday and Saturday TC and I are volunteering at the county fair and our shifts include a free meal. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. Maybe take my dinner one day, and indulge the next? Or be good both days? emoticon

I know, as we all do, that fried junk food does NOT taste as good as it used to, or as good as it smells, and is in no way worth the calories or the inevitable struggle to get back on track. So I'm hoping to do the right thing. (I don't sound too positive, do I?)

I still have at least 14 pounds to lose although of course I could go much lower. After this trip to Peru we have very little planned for the rest of the year and whew! That's exciting because we've been away most of 2013, it seems. I plan to hit the ground running in October. We will rejoin the fitness center and start training for a half-marathon on November 3.

So that's all that's on my mind this Thursday! Have a great weekend, Sparkpeeps, and here's a parting thought for the day, one I need to remember come Fair Day!!!

    Well I'm glad they got you started on a helpful medication before your big hiking trip! That picture was pretty crazy! Amazing to think about really. A moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips as they say!

My feeling is that you'll be fine with the free meal. Maybe try and eat lighter otherwise and if you are getting the free meal because you are helping out.....well you're going to be burning a ton of calories helping at the fair so that will help compensate for the extra calories you'll be consuming!

    Glad you finally got results back results on the heart rate monitor. I have been on beta blocker for over 30 years to control my heart rate. I had to learn to pace myself when exercising, I can't alow my heart rate to get too high because I would be stressing out my heart too much. The other thing is exercising in high humidity, I accidently left out pm dose of my twice a day for two days and my resting heart went up to 96 this morning until I rested after taking morning meds.

    Wow confirmation of why you went to the cardiologist in the first place... then he throws pills at you. Yikes. At least you have time to mull over your next course of action.

As for the fair, a free lunch may be free of nutrition ... you may have to bring your own to insure that you get some nutrients.

    That visual is SPOT ON! Nice! Ok, your reference to the cardiologist's diagnosis made me giggle. They can be so funny! Sounds like you have a plan of action in place on how to meet that challenge head on .... now about the fair food thing .... Trust yourself to do what is right for you based on how you are feeling right then, drink lots of water and focus on having fun versus struggling with "To eat or not to eat".

    Seriously, that's what he said, after having you wait forever?! Oy, and you had to pay good money to get that brilliant diagnosis. Grrr--doctors! Congrats on holding steady with your weight; it can be so difficult to do that when traveling and not on a regular schedule! Have fun at the fair, we're headed to one this weekend as well. We've found where we can eat reasonably well at the fair. My husband keeps eyeing the deep fried Twinkies (out of curiosity more than anything), but so far I've been able to steer him away. ("We could share one, it wouldn't be that bad!") I'm so excited for your trip to Peru, it is coming quickly!

    Duh on the cardiologist - - - really!?!

We'll be going to the county fair this weekend too :) Fried food doesn't interest me in the least, I'm going for the pig races :)
