Do It Afraid

This morning when I was doing my workout DVD, I was really struggling with some of the moves, and I had to do some modifications. In the past, I would feel bad about myself if I had to modify a workout. I would think that if I wasn't keeping up EXACTLY with the workout instructor on the DVD, then I was a failure and I might as well just give up.

I gave up on myself so many times. Sometimes I'd give up before I even started. I would think "I can't do why should I even try?" Or I would think "I have so much weight to lose...its going to take forever...I might as well just forget about it."

Mostly, I was just afraid of how hard I'd have to work in order to change my life and start moving towards my goals.

But then I read this quote from Joyce Meyer;
"Just because you feel fear doesn't mean you can't do it. Do it afraid."

I was afraid, but I got started anyway. It wasn't easy, and it still isn't. Although I've lost 71 lbs so far, I still have more weight to lose. And even though I workout every day, there are still things I can't do, and there are still moves that I have to modify. But then again, there so many things that I CAN do that I wasn't able to do before, and sometimes it just amazes me! I think "wow, I'm really doing this...52 years old, still overweight, bad knees...but I am doing this workout!"

If you're afraid to start, then do it afraid! You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to keep up with people who are younger than you, or people who are already in better shape than you. You only need to compete with yourself. Put forth YOUR best effort, and just take it one day at a time. Give yourself time to get better, stronger and braver. You are so worth the effort!

There are 110 days left until New Years Day. Imagine the progress you can make in that time! The days will go by no matter what you are doing, so why not make the best off that time?

Remember it was only a generation ago that people our age were considered old. I look at my Mom, who hates exercise and I realize that even though I am more over weight than she was at my age, I'm actually in better shape. So if modification is what we need because we aren't 20 anymore, so be it. I'm a slow runner and I know at some point I will be running 5 and 10K and being the winner for my age category because I kept with it! The turtle always wins!!!

Wow! I was just about to blow off working out today. Now I can't.
You have accomplished so much. I like to think of my weight lost in terms of cinder blocks I'm not carrying around any more.... at 14 lbs. each, I've taken off 4 1/2 cinder blocks and you've dropped 5 cinder blocks! It makes me want to do the things I couldn't do before.

I was afraid to go to the pool, even though I LOVE to swim. I went and I conquered. Great blog, thanks for the reminder about New Years. Makes me think about where I'll be in my journey and will it be the first year I don't have to make a resolution to lose weight and get healthy? Wow, what a concept!! Keep up the great work and thanks again for an inspiring blog.

1 day, 1 choice at a time. Each better choice you make is 1 worse choice you didn't make.

You can accomplish whatever you make important enough to focus on!

    Awesome blog Pixie!

Do it afraid.
Afraid of the hard work
Afraid of not succeeding
Afraid of stepping out of your comfort zone.

Goodness - I could go on with that for a while! I guess I am afraid.
Thank you for the insight!

You are so right! I am 50 and have 70-80 to lose! Seems overwhelming, but patience is a great virtue (that I really have to work on!... lol)
PS - I love Joyce Meyers too - I read from her devotional book each morning "Hearing from God each morning"

I can't even remember how many times I've said to myself... just one more time. I'm afraid of failure, but I'm still here, still committed, still working.

Thanks for your blog, Pixie, I think it will help a lot of people.

I sometime am afraid I will hurt myself....but when I go slow and work it out for my needs seems it turns out good....not say lots of jumping can cause me some discomfort....

Doing my best each day makes me proud of myself
