Grocery Store Attitude Adjustment

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

I just got back from the grocery store. I actually had my menu plan written out and a grocery list to go with it. Taa-daa. First bonus point for me. Why does that one simple act so often trip me up? It doesn’t take more than 20-30 minutes of my time? I can easily do it with my morning coffee, so no more letting that being a stumbling block.

As I was saying, I just got back from the store. Typically I like to carry in as much at one time as possible so I don’t have to make multiple trips back and forth from the car. Today I saw it more as an opportunity to get in some steps on my FitBit. So it took half a dozen trips back and forth doing arm curls as I did. That actually kind of made what it typically a grueling chore into something a bit more enjoyable and productive towards my health twofold.

Next comes the other part that is not enjoyable about grocery shopping, putting everything away. No matter how I tried I couldn’t find this one fun. I thought about all the activity it was adding to my day. That didn’t do it. It was hard to feel positive when I was struggling to find space for everything in my cupboard. But then came the refrigerator. When I got done putting everything in there and then stood back and took a look. Well the heavens opened up and a ray of light beamed down. There before me was a frig filled with all kinds of fresh fruit and veggies in all their splendid colors and textures. It really is pretty.

I think this has been a lesson for me today. Planning and shopping for eating right is not a bad thing. And another bonus to planning is that I wasn’t once tempted by all the cookie and chip displays or the smell of the broasted chicken. You know what I’m talking about. And then there is always those candy bars at the check-out that used to speak to me in three different languages. Those being “hunger”, “emotion” and “I deserve a treat”. I think we all know those languages right?

I think if I keep my attitude in check that going grocery shopping can become every bit as enjoyable as when I go to a book or craft store. And all of it can be good for me. Wow….a WIN!!! emoticon

Even a boring chore can become a life lesson.
So glad you turned it into something positive.

LOL The things I hate most about grocery shopping are writing the check and putting them away-especially in this never-ending summer weather!
