Tonight's Run

Like Seven Inches From the Midday Sun as the song goes!

Temperature at approximately 5:15pm, a lovely 91 degrees. Ugh!

Prep - soaked a bandana in cold water, wrung it out and put it in the fridge. Filled up a small water bottle and stuck it in the freezer, bagged up a few ice cubes and put that in the freezer.

I fed the dog, changed clothes, did a little warm up and quick light stretch. Wrapped the bandana around my neck (brrrr), put the baggie of ice under my hat, grabbed the water bottle and I was off.

The bandana around my neck created a little breeze and my head felt cold. So this is good. A mile in, my legs started talking... "Um you know, you and your warrior poses at yoga last night really kind of pushed it, we could really use a walking break. What have we told you about running the day after yoga?"

To distract me I started visualizing things around me like I learned in the Spark 4-week stress buster challenge. I saw a rusty red colored car and soon old commercials started flashing through my mind.... rust, uh oh better get Maaco.... That old car is worth money, let Victory Auto Wreckers.... Hey Good Looking, we'll be back to pick you up later. It went on and on and soon I was at the 2-mile mark.

I walked for about 30 seconds, took a couple drinks of water and picked it back up. The last two songs on my playlist brought me home...Imagine Dragons - On Top Of the World and My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade. There was no way to slow down listening to those songs.

I finished 3.1 miles in 33:42. I was pretty happy about that considering the heat. So I hit Imagine Dragons back on and did a little victory dance in the kitchen!

Tonight's running equipment:

Recovery - a glass of skim milk with a couple tablespoons of Hersey's chocolate syrup and more stretching.

Now I need some dinner.

Spark on!

You are stronger than me! I can't run when it's that hot! Cool front coming today, highs in the mid-80s starting tomorrow. I know my morning runs will be even nicer!

Good for you for not using the heat as an excuse!

I'm not a runner but I bet I can use those ideas (cold bandana and ice cubes in the hat) on my next walk when it is hot outside. Thanks for the great tip! Great job on your run, by the way, especially in the heat!

HA! I learned my new thing for today! I *DO* soak a bandana in cold water, but the ice-cubes-in-a-hat trick is a new one for me!

Congrats on a great job. Tomorrow it will be 99 degrees here so I'll give it a try!
