Back to the salt mine

So today was the first day back to work after vacation. You always end up paying for vacation days. I had a huge pile of back-posting and filing to do. However, I did rake in some Golden Goodie points with the boss for helping another department leading up to month-end last month.

Right now I'm having a seltzer and watching last night's Iron Chef America. I hadn't planned to keep the recording but I just might for the look on Alex Guarnaschelli's face when the Secret Ingredient was revealed to be -- jerky! Let's face it, The Chairman just took a left turn at "evil" and headed straight for "demented." (I used to wonder if there was something wrong with me for how totally I buy into this stuff. Took me awhile to realize that it's probably no weirder than putting on the team tee shirt and yelling in front of the TV every Sunday.)

Thank goodness I made that spaghetti sauce last night. I just have to reheat some while I boil pasta. I've picked up the technique of par-cooking the pasta in the water and finishing it in the sauce like they do on Food Network. The first time I did, I tried to give the skillet that little flip-toss they do. I was VERY lucky not to end up with spaghetti all over the stove! Now I just stir it while it cooks. The sauce ended up a little spicier than I'm used to. I guess I got a little "enthusiastic" with the red pepper flakes. It tastes good but I'll definitely dial it back next time.

Time to go remove the shoes...
