Back to the salt mine

So today was the first day back to work after vacation. You always end up paying for vacation days. I had a huge pile of back-posting and filing to do. However, I did rake in some Golden Goodie points with the boss for helping another department leading up to month-end last month.

Right now I'm having a seltzer and watching last night's Iron Chef America. I hadn't planned to keep the recording but I just might for the look on Alex Guarnaschelli's face when the Secret Ingredient was revealed to be -- jerky! Let's face it, The Chairman just took a left turn at "evil" and headed straight for "demented." (I used to wonder if there was something wrong with me for how totally I buy into this stuff. Took me awhile to realize that it's probably no weirder than putting on the team tee shirt and yelling in front of the TV every Sunday.)

Thank goodness I made that spaghetti sauce last night. I just have to reheat some while I boil pasta. I've picked up the technique of par-cooking the pasta in the water and finishing it in the sauce like they do on Food Network. The first time I did, I tried to give the skillet that little flip-toss they do. I was VERY lucky not to end up with spaghetti all over the stove! Now I just stir it while it cooks. The sauce ended up a little spicier than I'm used to. I guess I got a little "enthusiastic" with the red pepper flakes. It tastes good but I'll definitely dial it back next time.

Time to go remove the shoes...

    The first two days back to work after taking a week off are the hardest If you survive them, the rest is easy. emoticon

A little spice is nice. But too much can ruin a dish. Add a small can of tomato sauce to tone down the spicyness of it. emoticon

    Yikes...jerky? That had to have made for a very chewy dish! Speaking of weird food - and especially weird food combos - I read online yesterday that peanut butter-and-jelly CHICKEN WINGS have become all the rage... Can this be like deep-fried Nutella?? Yikes again! emoticon

    What is it with vacations that make them go so quickly?

Your mention of red pepper flakes made me think of the first time I canned hot peppers. Talk about na´ve!! I had burning fingertips, burning cheeks and almost had burning eyes before I realized what the problem was! Live and learn; right?

    Glad you're okay with being back at work. I bet your vacation flew by faster than a Speeding Bullet emoticon I bet that spicy spaghetti sauce is delicious in spite of being a little heavy with red pepper spices. . .I do like spicy food but sometimes if too spicy my stomach will rebel. I know you enjoy the food channel tonight as there is no greater Fan than You of all these Well Known Gourmet Chefs.     I've done that too . . . going overboard with the red pepper flakes. Can always ADD spice, but can't take it out! LOL

I don't think I saw that episode with the jerky, but I can imagine!
