What do I love about the BLC (Biggest Loser Challenge)?
In two words: Structure and Accountability.
Structure: When I have done other weight loss programs, or even when trying a new program on my own, I tend to have a gung-ho attitude on day one, and then the good intentions would wane as the week progressed, followed by a last ditch effort the day before weigh-in. With BLC, there are obligations that occur throughout the week, and this keeps me from letting the week totally get away from me. Right after weigh-in, I know I will have a strength training session to complete (TNT Thursday), and then directly into challenges spanning Friday – Monday (how smart to include Fridays and Mondays!) Next up is Last Chance Workout, and then the week ends with a Wednesday Weigh-in.
Accountability: Although we aren’t meeting in person, I feel more accountability to this team than I ever did to an “in-person” team. I made the effort to converse on the team boards, and it paid off by helping me to get to know people at a deeper level. Now, I don’t hesitate to refer to many of my teammates as personal friends. We are also blessed to have a great leader who is no push-over! She is sweet as can be, willing to extend herself to help you in any way she can, but she lets you know she has expectations, and holds you to them =) I need that. I have plenty of people in my life who smile and say “who cares? You are fine as you are! Eat the ice cream.” My teammates say “We care – drop the spoon!!”
I had a rough summer of not living up to my own expectations as I fought the battle between having a social life and trying to be fit and lose weight. Being fit? No problem. Losing weight? Big problems! As we approach BLC23, I need to wrap my head around the fact that nothing changes if nothing changes, and it is time to stop giving lip service to what needs to be done, and simply do it!
