I am getting settled into my new place. I discovered after I moved in, from a nice neighbor, that I am the first renter in this place. Previous tenant was a family member and let me tell you I found a lot of problems. Gas stove was broke, repairman came out and looked at it and then at all the gas lines, short version is I now have brand new gas lines and a new stove. I had exposed wires for some lights in the kitchen, now I have no lights (and no exposed wires) in the kitchen, which is fine during the day as it has a skylight, but night time is a bit of a trial. I have a newer make for my washer and dryer that I couldn't hook up, did I mention house was built in 1960 with several additions added later?? No curtains except for blinds in the teeny, tiny, itsy, bitty second bedroom and the bathroom. There are bugs everywhere. There was a hole in the chain link fence, I was outside and I looked up and there were Jake and Annie in the empty lot next door. So yes next job was to fix that and walk the fence line!!
I am renting from a property management company that just took over this property so I had a different person at the property every day of the first week to try to address some of the issues. The greatest find was that they have a handyman that they use and he is awesome!! He cleaned out the 4 sheds that were filled with junk. He came by last week to take down documentation of the broken/not working items around the house and while there he got my washer hooked up, too complicated to explain, and noticed the dripping sink fixture and he got them to fix that too. The problem with getting things fixed is that the homeowner told the management company that they would have to wait on the other items due to the expense of the gas lines and new stove. The good news is that the handyman is aware and is going to talk the management company into fixing the lights. I have bought blinds for the bedroom, but it hasn't been an issue as this is a dead end street and gets little to no traffic. I will get them installed soon though.
Some of these issues were so bad that I was tempted to move out, changed my mind after the washer got hooked up and the faucet got changed. I can deal with the bugs as I am resourceful!!
After I fixed the fence the dogs surprised a bunny and the race was on, well Jake chased the bunny and Annie chased Jake!
After chasing the bunny back and forth for a few laps the bunny made for his escape route, this is where I had placed a cinder block to cover a hole, and killed himself. Jake acted like he had killed the bunny, he was so proud!
I wanted to post some pictures, but the computer I am using isn't allowing me to. I will try to add them later.
After meeting the neighbor I discovered that Jake had gone over for a visit and came home afterwards! Little devil! So I fixed that spot with a cinder block and now when I go to work I throw several handfuls of hot dog bits around the yard (dogs inside still) and when I leave I tell them "find it" and they spend the day looking for hot dog bits!
Overall I still like the property, it is perfect for the dogs, and so I will be giving it a year to see how I feel then.
Happy to see 6 pounds gone since moving! Yeah me!!
and have a great day!!
