Sunday's Race

Monday, September 09, 2013

Sunday I ran my third half marathon - fifth race. I've also run a 10k, and a full marathon.

This is the photo they took after I crossed the finish line. I ordered the full package and am waiting for the email so I can download my pics.

Anyhow, I've figured out a few things

1. I really struggle to settle into a run when I'm in a race. I do run, but I often find myself walking too. I just don't seem to settle into a run and stay there.

2. I cry at the start line. I always do.

3. When I cross the finish line, I'm likely to pass out. I have come very close every time I've crossed a finish line. I come close to vomiting and passing out. I really have to fight to stop both. In fact, when they give my my medal, they ask if I'm okay. EVERY time.

Sunday's race was fine. It was overcast. It wasn't raining, so it was just right. Humidity wasn't overpowering either.

I made it to the half way mark, and was feeling great. In fact, I had a thought. I was not going for a personal record, but if I didn't step it up I'd end up finishing the race and want to keep running. So I started to push it a little more. I was able to run uphill all throughout the rest of the course. I was also able to run up "heartbreak hump" and across the finish line. I was going to take a few steps to rest after heartbreak hump, but the crowd was hollering "don't stop now, there's the finish line!" So I just went for it.

Now it's rest time. I took today off from running. I'm not sure if I'm running tomorrow morning or not. I will decide later today. I'm thinking I just might out out for a short 2mile warm up type of run. Just to get my body moving again. My next race is in 8 weeks. I want to work towards running the entire race.

emoticon I just can't run! I want to, but apparently not badly enough to do what it takes, so I accept that. I admire you!
