Mistake . . . I Apologized . . . and Learned

Monday, September 09, 2013

I love humor. I love comedy. I love joking around (when I'm in the mood, and sometimes I'm definitely not.)

I was talking to a friend the other day; the friend had encouraged me to take a certain risk, and I took it. I haven't found out the results yet, but I'm so pleased I took the risk.

I said to my friend, "It's all your fault!" She said, "No, no, (and then I can't remember what she said."

She's a great lady whose friendship I value.

I backtracked and said, "I was just joking. It's totally my responsibility that I . . . "

LESSON: Just . . . to be sensitive to others in what I say! I get hurt SO easily by others' words, and yet I have this expectation that anything I say should be okay since it's said in good will or good fun. But that's not the way it works . . . I am responsible for what I say and I want to think for JUST A SECOND before I speak. If I'm not sure how I myself would feel on the receiving end of a comment, best to hold off.

Livin' & learnin'

Wow! You did good by putting yourself in your friend's shoes and feeling the "ouch" that she might have been feeling! Most people - in my experience - spend two-thirds of their time thinking about themselves and the other one third criticizing others. The world would be a better place if folks would work on developing empathy.

Good for you (and for mullet man for supporting you)!!

It sounds like you are trying really hard to figure out how to be better ... and the kinda good part I think, is that you were doing some serious self-reflecting ... and saw some areas you feel you can be better about ... AND, you did not have bad self-talk. That is totally a good thing.

A Christian singer came out with a new album recently and it is called I" Was Wrong, I'm Sorry & I Love You". I just learned about the album and this post helped me to recall the title of his.

I was struck by the beauty of the title of the album. Thank you for personifying it!
