Monday Morning Quaterback - Tales from 100# Down

Monday, September 09, 2013

If you are expecting me to critique the San Francisco-Green Bay or Dallas - New York Football Game you better tune into ESPN. THIS Monday Morning Quaterback is going to critique her own weekend to see how she could have "played it better".

Weekends are times when we often get off track a bit. Our routine changes from the Monday- Friday grind and social events can bring food challenges. They can also take us out of our fitness routine!

So... Let's take a look at my weekend as an example.

First the GOOD points:

✷I stayed in range both days.
✷I got a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio both days.
✷I drank my 8 glasses of water both days.
✷I connected with my sparkteams both days.
✷I took my own food to the church potluck dinner and didn't even LOOK at the buffet

Now the areas where I stumbled:

✷Saturday night sleep - I was up late and had to get up early to finish the food for the potluck that I was sharing (healthy kettle of green beans) so I could leave the house at 8:45. I should have gone to bed earlier.

✷Saturday food choices - While I was well within my calorie range I had sugar in the form of candy corn which I'm SURE is loaded with HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). New resolve - Don't look at the shelves of Halloween Candy already filling the stores! I also had too much bread. While I made a good choice in a whole grain bread I really don't need to eat that much bread.

✷Potatoes - I had potatoes for dinner. Now potatoes are not a horrible thing as long as they aren't fried or buttered to death but I would have been just as satisfied with my carrots and my broccoli. Next time skip the potatoes.

✷Cardio - Saturday was a busy day and I only got 30 minutes on the elliptical and some walking. I really try to get 60 minutes minimum on the elliptical a day so I need to get up and do at least 15 early in the morning so I can push that total up!

✷TV - Football is going to happen in this house because my husband loves it so. I ended up doing too much sitting and that doesn't have to be. We have an elliptical and a recumbent bike in the same room and I can watch just as easily from them. When my rear is in the chair I'm not burning calories like I should be!

- - - - -

The bottom line is that while I didn't have a bad weekend (scales are right where they should be this morning) I didn't have a GREAT weekend and I know there is room for improvement. In football terms I would say I won by a 2 point conversion and I need to beat the spread next weekend!

Take a look at YOUR weekend and make plans now for the next one!

I could really go for some good green beans! But my mom cooks them with bacon and fat and makes them taste so dog gone good!!! I am going to learn how to make them taste good but have a healthy spin to them!

"Beat the Spread"... I think that's what we're all trying to do.

Press on, indeed! Really impressed with your ability to take your own food to a potluck and avoid the buffet altogether! emoticon

You have taken an honest look, defined your problem areas and set out a game plan for improvement. Every head coach in the NFL would want to hire you as the offensive coach!

Way to go.

Great assessment! Very balanced. I think you deserve a huge emoticon for bringing your own food to the church potluck and not looking at the buffet. That is a HUGE accomplishment, especially since I'll bet there were a ton of desserts there. emoticon

Love your format today. And your assessment. You had a pretty darn good weekend but there's always room for improvement. Now I have to write the "true confessional" of my OWN weekend. Thanks for giving me the nudge.

I like the way you have sharpened your analysis of ways in which you could have done better. You are not beating up on yourself, but you are making productive mental notes for the future. emoticon
