Another Reason to Go Organic

Sunday, September 08, 2013

When it comes to buying organic, I stick to apples and berries. Thick-skinned produce, like bananas, don't seem to pose as much of a hazard. The pesticides are up against a big barrier, and let's be honest: organic isn't always an option due to price.

I just read an article about arsenic now being in rice, which you can read here: www.sparkpeople.com/reso

p?health_day=679979
The FDA said the findings don't suggest we should be alarmed, but common sense should tell us to stay away.

Arsenic is a poison used to kill rats. The article indicates that scant traces of it can be found in multiple food sources, but for me it's another reason to go organic. Luckily I have a local grocery store (Wegmans) that has a whole food section, and I only shop for myself and my pets.

That Dooney and Bourke handbag I've had my eye on can wait, I guess. Sigh... emoticon

Unfortunately no, the store doesn't have layaway. That's alright, though. I'll probably start a savings account for weight loss rewards and that'll be on it! emoticon

Thanks for sharing the information. I saw a bit on the news about arsenic in rice and I'm not sure that buying organic rice is a guarantee that it won't be contaminated. In fact, I was my organic produce with mild detergent (for example lemons and melons) to be sure that I'm not going to ingest something like Listeria. I'll be on the lookout for more info about rice!

Food vs. the bag? What a great reward for meeting a goal that bag would make! Does the store do layaway?

Have a great week!!
