Do you like how YOU look in photos?

Saturday, September 07, 2013

I understand ppl don't always like how they look and when they see their pics and say EWW Gross! But seriously that is you! I mean there is no one else in the photo? lol Own it! If you don't like what you see then change what is in the photo. I get these teachers who make me take 3-4 pics and each one say, ew no! I have just started saying "How do you want to look?". I am the photographer and doing my job and can't make you happy. Just pose however you want and u can win this one. Go for it. I was telling my mom about it and she said the same thing that she hates photos of herself and asked if I like photos of myself. I don't MIND photos of myself. But I also work my tail off at the gym each every week. I am sure it will change with time and age. But I did go thru years of having no photos taken and not being able to look in the mirror. I get that. But if you don't like what's in the mirror or the camera, chances are it's not the photographers fault.

I had an awful day yesterday. Eating, exercising everything. I worked with a woman I had never worked with. We did a great job at the school even got a compliment to our boss from the principle half way thru the shoot. We were leaving and she asked if I was gonna stop anywhere to eat, no, she mentioned taco bell. I felt guilty cuz she wanted to leave the school on our break and I didn't and she stayed cuz I did. So I followed her to taco bell. She went in to eat, ugh sure, ok. We ate inside. Came back to my car to find out I locked my keys in my car with the keys in the ignition. 36 miles from home.... She drove me to my house and dropped me off. She offered to take me back but I felt awful about that cuz she had to get home ot her kids. I was worried about my equipment all day locked in my car in a fast food parking lot. So Scott and I drove back last night. Turned out my key was turned slightly and drained my battery. Oh ya and my car was overheating yesterday on my drive to work. We ate dinner in town and then went to walmart and stocked up on supplies to cool my car and start it. Attempting to jump a Honda CRV with a Honda FIT is kinda of impossible. We tried for about 45 minutes. Finally Scott got a box that holds power and u can jump a car from that. Started ASAP. Finally got home at 10 pm last night. So lesson of the day DO NOT stop at fast food place 36 miles from home on a whim to be nice to a coworker, JUST GO HOME! I hope today is better.

I agree with your assessment about photos. I've never been thrilled about having my picture taken, even when I was young and thin. Not because of how I looked but I'm not a person who likes to be the center of attention. I'm shy in my own way, I like to blend in. I had a male friend and he worked for the school newspaper and the country newspaper as a photographer when we were in high school and he was always taking my picture. It really made me very uncomfortable. I can understand how some native people think that photos steal your soul. LOL.

I like Taco Bell but it sure isn't somewhere I can eat sensibly. LOL.

I'm just glad you're alright. It's not a day that happens all the time for you, so no worries.

I'm trying really hard to not hate the way I look. I'm doing a good job with the food and exercise and I'm losing, but when I see myself, I just think I look hideous. :/ I guess I need to keep working on that one!!!

I often hate how I look in photos - and it isn't my body, it's my face. I like my face in the mirror, I think I look pretty and sometimes more - but in a photo, I tense, or I look like a deer caught in headlights, or something. In a photo, I just don't look the same way I look in a mirror. At all!

Though every once in a while I do get a photo that looks like the me I see in a mirror, it's a relatively rare occurrence.

Not sure what the difference is, between the mirror and the camera - or how to make them always match!

I appreciate the photographers that come to take pictures of all 978 of my students. I am a school principal, and this effort takes five full days of taking pictures of over 50 classes of kids.

I don't mind getting my picture taken at all. I just realize that I have a lot more wrinkles, but I can still shine my smile bright. I am 59 years old after all.
