Not what I had planned, but it was a good day anyway.

Friday, September 06, 2013

I got up this morning and I immediately pulled on my running togs. I headed down for my coffee and oatmeal and I was reminded by She(WMBO) that the plumber was coming today for an estimate to replace our bathtub.

"But isn't that why you are working from home today?"

"It is, but I want you here to listen to what he says." She is hearing impaired and even with hearing aids, she sometimes needs me to translate. "But you can go running. He won't be here for another hour."

That was sweet, but today is a long run day ... two to two-and-a-Half hours is normal for Friday. "That's ok. The plumber is what I am supposed to do." She looked at me with the oh-don't-you-be-a-martyr look. "No. Really. I do what I am supposed to to first." Another look of yeah-sure. "Really! Really really. I do."

I got redressed and grabbed a bucket of tools and went after some more of the "project bike," stripping them of parts and cutting off thing like head tubes (where the handle bars connect) and bottom brackets (the crank place). I need those parts for my trike.

I was deep into bike #3 when the Len the Plumber truck pulled in. It was nearly noon. More than three hours. I could have gone running. But I got three bikes mostly torn down before he got here. So ... good work.

By the end of the day, I had five bikes torn down and about 70 pounds of steel in my pick up for recycling. That's about $30. WooHoo! Two bikes left to destroy.

After I fixed dinner, I pulled on my running togs again and headed for the Y.

And it was good.
