Goals for the week of Sept 8-14

Friday, September 06, 2013

Getting off track is really easy. Getting back on track not so much. It has been a really difficult year for me. I had two cataract surgeries in Feb and March. Then in early March I slipped on the ice and tore my lateral meniscus. After that I had knee issues which resulted in surgery in June to repair the knee. It was really easy to come up with excuses for not exercising. It was really easy to eat just because. I ended up gaining a lot of weight. It really has to stop. When I was setting weekly goals and assessing my progress, I did really well at losing weight so I am going to start doing it again. I have to reverse the weight gain. I wish I could say that my knee issues are resolved, but they are not. Yesterday DH and my youngest DD visited a college she is considering. The campus was beautiful but spread out with a lot of hills. We did the step free tour so that I would not aggravate my knee. The tour took 2.5 hours and by the time I was done I was in pain and limping. During the 2.5 hour drive home I got really stiff and could barely walk. I took pain meds and went to bed. Woke up a few hours later with a painful cramp in my good leg. It was most likely due to dehydration since it was a very hot day and I did not drink as much water as usual. Today both knees are painful. I absolutely have to get the excess weight off again. So my goals for next week are

1. Track every bite I take. Stay within calorie range.

2. Drink 10 glasses of water daily.

3. Go to the gym at least 3 times. Start my ST program again.

4. Do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise every day.

For my first week back this is enough.

You have certainly been through an awful lot but one thing I know about you is once you set your mind to something, there is no stopping you. I know this time won't be any different so you are on your way with some great, attainable goals.

I am sorry to hear about your struggles, this past year, but very happy that you are ready to get back at it!
You are ready to take charge and will not let your knee issues win.

Listen to that knee, though.

I have had knee issues and progress can be done, but differently, with some things.
At that first twinge, best to stop, that certain thing and try something else.
You will get there, I know it. emoticon

They sound like very sensible goals. Congratulations for deciding to work within the limitations of your knees instead of putting it off.
