From vine to bathroom: A cucumber's story.

Friday, September 06, 2013

Did you all know that cucumbers are nature's diuretic? Want to lose wome water? Eat cukes. I brought some more home from work today, thanks to "Bob". I used to eat them in sour cream with paper-thin sliced sweet onions, but now it is strictly washed, semi-peeled and sliced. Yummy!

The peeling is a wonderful source of fiber, I do not have to tell you that the chlorophyll in the peeling is very healthy too. Easy method to get those vitamins in and flush the kidneys too! The little guys that I have are about one inch longer than my finger, so no huge seeds, no bitterness.

I am very proud of my DD. (TweetyKC00) Yesterday she attempted to mow my dad's lawn, but the mower deck did not drop when she pulled the handle, so she came home.

When I returned form work this afternoon, she told me she went back there to empty the dehumidifier and decided to get on the garage floor and check out the problem..IT turns out that the belt had come off the pulley, probably from the horrible vibration from doing the back acre of lawn. She put the belt back in place, got some wrenches and tightened the bolts holding the pulley in place and it worked perfectly! She has never done anything like this before, so it is great! Usually I have to go fix it, but she did it herself!! Yea!!!!!!!

Chopped cucumbers, chopped tomatoes and sliced onion in equal proportion. A very little bit of salt, and herbs of your choice. The tiniest drizzle of oil and vinegar, makes the perfect summer salad. Enjoy.

Oh my goodness! DD showed a great deal of drive, in more ways than one. You are justly proud of her.

Do you have a mandolin? Both cukes and carrots seem to have a wonderfully different flavor when you give them a waffle cut. Easy with a blade-type slicer, impossible without.

Have a great weekend.

Good point about those cukes! I just bought a pack of the small ones yesterday. I love them with a little bit of hummus. I'll have to have some at snack time tonight!

And good on your DD! I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to do that. I'm not so great at fixing things. Dh does a little better than me, but mostly, we're "Call the repairman" sorts. Luckily we live in an apartment, so the maintenance is free.

Hope you're having a great day!
