home again

and so the journey is over. we picked up pelle, shopped to replenish the vegan pantry and refrigerator, crossed the mountains and arrived home in the early afternoon to find a party of 4 deer lounging on our lawn. we disturbed them in their midday siesta, and they took their sweet time about leaving. pelle the border collie jumped out of the car, cast a glance at the visitors, and marched up to the front door. home.

and hot! too hot for exercise, but a nice stroll down to the river was in order - and the three of us, me, DH and pelle went for a swim. still, we managed to put in 5 miles before the day was out - can't complain considering we had no energy from the heat (87F!) and jet lag. we can thank the fitbit for that - after dinner we were just under a mile short of 5 miles, so we went out for one more walk to make the goal. never would have gone out for more exercise otherwise.

and o that dinner! put together a pantry meal - spaghetti sauce made with what i happened to have around: two cans of fire-roasted tomatoes, garlic, onion, some red wine that had been left in the fridge, part of a spaghetti package left in the pantry, sliced zucchini and a couple of chard leaves picked up at the store today, and white beans left in the freezer, as well as ground black pepper and red pepper flakes to jazz it up. put together the sauce while the spaghetti cooked, used the immersion blender, then added some sliced kalamatas - it was delish!

so the fitbit says:

5.12 miles
12,677 steps

a bit short of the 15,000 step daily goal, but with jet lag... it'll do.

Home again, home again, jiggity jig.

Glad you are home safely and the family is re-united. Rest up and recover from that jet lag.

It will, indeed, do, amid the jet lag. emoticon

Sorry about the deer in your yard. I have to run them off regularly. They eat the entire (expensive) garden.

Glad you got home safely. It is still warm in Washington in the late afternoons. Get some rest from that jet lag. Walking 5 miles with jet lag is an accomplishment.

Your meal sounded yummy. I love Kalamata olives.
