Tristacher see, totally fresh-water swim

Friday, September 06, 2013

It's still fresh in the morning, we just got up, and will pack and go shortly. I thought to check in with a nice picture, after all the nice feedback I got on the post on the Balaton weekend.

This week we are on a bike tour in Austria and Italy, as we choose to come up to the Alps, and have some mountain view! :-)

Unfortunately, my wife got some food sickness, so we had to stay for two days here, in Lienz. However, we could use the change in plans it on our advantage.
I bought a couple of bicycle maps in the local bookshop, and got some other maps and suggestions in the tourist information office.

It turned out there are even three campsites here, we checked out the two in town, but then decided to see the third one, too, and we climbed up to this beautiful lake to the camping site, Tristacher See. Excellent location for a romantic stop on our third honeymoon-week this summer!

There's a small beach on the lake, and lot of walking paths around. So, I had all that I needed for a good exercise. Yesterday I swam twice in the lake, the best swimming experience of my life! Usually I swam in the open air pool in Gleisdorf, which is nice, too, but having these beautiful mountains in my view as background for every stroke is breathtaking! :-)

The water was totally fresh, so fresh that I measured the temperature. It was 20.5 C (70 F), but then it's a new learning that 70 F water is COOOOOLD! :-) We also made a couple of rounds around the lake.

In the end, I'm happy we stayed for some time, we enjoyed this beautiful lake and mountains a lot, and now we are charged up with new possibilities for new tours here and around.

Bike touring with tents, and camping and wild-camping - it's so much freedom!
Today, we're following the Drau/Drava river, cross the border near Sillian, and continue to Dobbiaco/Toblach, Brunico, Fortezza, Bozen. This Südtirol region is just beautiful at every stop.

Do you like camping or wild-camping?
Anyone did touring in the Alps before?
A favourite location to recommend in the Alps?

Not the Alps, but if you get to Northern Italy the whole area around Riva del Garda on the North shore of Lake Garda is beautiful, usually windy though although on a hot day that is very
