With the start of the school year, I've been a bit quiet. We've been trying to map out a schedule and routine for the family. My hubby started a new teaching position, which changes his start time (for the better). And, well, the kids just don't want school to start and they are dragging their feet, kicking and screaming the whole way. I remember being excited for the school year, as I loved getting all the school supplies, writing my names on all my folders, & seeing all my friends. But, I also remember feeling pretty bored during the summer. My kids get a lot of entertainment that did not exist 30 years ago. There's a lot of fun library time, swimming, hikes, summer camp, sleep overs, sleeping in, outside play, ice cream eating, family visits, vacation, and crafts. Not to mention just laying about with nothing but a good book & not another worry in the world. Homework and being in a desk all day is a jolt to the system and I can't say I blame them. But, I always tell them, "you have to go to school because you don't want to dig ditches for a living." But, yes, I cry a little after dropping them off the first day of school. I miss them being around. The house is very quiet. We all need a little extra TLC the first weeks of school.

As far as my sparkpeople world, it has meant a less active involvement in the community. But, I'm exercising regularly. I've incorporated a strength training program, which I've not always been consistent with. I've maintained this for about a month, and despite the scale staying the same, I've lost inches. I'm not tracking regularly, but trying to eat more consciously instead. It doesn't work every day, but I feel it will make me more aware of my emotional eating. I'm watching the scale closely, and will drop this experiment, or tweak it, as soon as I see the scale move up. I just know the tracking was driving me crazy and wasn't really working for me. I also started back to yoga. I haven't done yoga for about 10yrs. I was doing Pilates for the past 3 yrs and loved it, but it was getting too expensive. So, my friend dragged me to yoga. It was exhilarating, but 2 days later I'm still a bit sore. Hopefully, next week I'll recover more quickly.

Headed out of town for a girls trip this weekend! Going to see some rock shows in St Louis! Should be a blast! And, I'll burn some calories biking to & from the venue, as well as dancing my booty off! Have a great weekend!

It sounds like you have wonderful times in the summer with your family. Your plan to not track but be aware should work plus you are monitoring it with weight checks. You are doing great! Hugs, Laurel

I totally understand what you're going through :)

Sounds like an opportunity to refocus on yourself and your health goals. The yoga sounds fantastic. While I haven't been able to keep up with any yoga program consistently, I am able to occasionally catch a class at the YMCA. I am a huge believer in its effectiveness. It's a complete underrated form of strength training, in my opinion.

Have fun at your concerts. Sounds like a blast!
