It's Thursday, a work at home day. The feet felt pretty good this morning. Not 100%, but it's been a long time since they were 100%. I decided to do walk 3, run 1.5 intervals on my lunch hour.
I got nice running weather, 65° F and sunny with north wind at 16 mph. I covered the same route as Tuesday, in close to the same time. Seven cycles of walk 3, run 1.5 came out to 3.16 miles in 31:32, for an average pace of 9:59 per mile. Along the way, my phone rang and I dealt with a short work-related call; but that apparently didn't affect my running pace.
Then there was the conference call right at 1 PM. It was scheduled for a half hour, and should have fit in that schedule; but it didn't. It took almost an hour, and was more interactive than it should have been. It also made icing my foot kind of hit or miss for that hour.
What with one thing and another, I was short on steps for the day. 5K walking will give me 5500 to 5600 steps; 5 K of walk 3, run 1.5 is only good for about 4000 steps. So I took a sanity stroll about 3, and noticed that I had to go slowly or the foot would hurt. Hmm. It wasn't like this on Tuesday.
Got through the work day. Got to my 10K steps on some shopping in the evening. Had to stroll while shopping because whenever I forgot and sustained a brisk walk, the foot started hurting. Bummer.
I take this as a sign that I found the limit of how much I can do. I won't expand the intervals again right away, and I'll take at least two days of rest before trying again. Next possible walk/run intervals would be Sunday, and I need to be prepared to bag them if the foot does not improve. While I'm hopeful that this will be a minor ache, easily recovered with a good night's sleep, I need to be mentally prepared for dealing with an aggravation if that's how it plays out.
Tomorrow I'll know whether I exercised right to my limit or past it this week.
