Trying to get motivated

Thursday, September 05, 2013

I have a lot of stuff to do around the house but I feel limp and tired. I have to go empty the dishwasher and put laundry away. How much this is physical and how much is emotional, I don't know.

I'm taking a page from Rachael Ray and doing some big-batch cooking today and this weekend. Tonight I'm making Italian sausage and mushroom spaghetti sauce. Saturday I'm making a batch of my favorite soup. It's from an old Sunset Magazine recipe. It has Italian sausage (yes, I do like Italian sausage), butternut squash, hominy and other veggies cooked in chicken broth. The hominy gives the broth a gorgeous, rich corn taste. Pictures below:

Sometime this weekend I need to renew my apartment lease. If I renew by Monday my increase will only be $50 a month, which is far less than it could be. I have a hard time I've lived here over four years now.

Time for lunch and to get the sauce on.

What helps me the most when my motivation is low and I feel overwhelmed by tasks is to take one of the best pieces of advice my therapist ever gave me. It isn't all or nothing. Getting the upper rack of the dishwasher unloaded is a step.... I used to think if I didn't empty to whole thing at once, why bother. Part of my black and white thinking... all or nothing.... still gets me into trouble once in a while.
BTW, check out this video... it's Bobby making awesome baked apples:

Mmmmm!! What appealing fall goodies! I love the sauce...with the butternut squash, hominy, and sausage... that would have such a rich, satisfying, flavorful, fallish appeal to it! I can just tell that you are a real "cook's cook," a major force in the kitchen! emoticon

The soup sounds delicious. I haven't eaten hominy since I was a kid.

I can totally relate. I keep thinking I'll come home from work and clean some cupboards, but isn't happening. Then I resent spending my weekend cleaning.

Wow! I wish I could accomplish half of that in a day. I feel fatigued, too, and was going to offer suggestions until I kept reading and could appreciate what you have gotten done.
By the way, your dinner looks delicious.
