Scale Creep

Yep--been experiencing some scale creep lately--it's not fatal or anything, but none the less--it's occurring.
I've been having recurring peanut butter, honey, and bread binges in the afternoons when I get home from work--for some reason I think I'm starving, and I intend to have just a snack--and it turns into an out of control binge!
I've been journaling about it, and praying about it, and this morning I added a little extra activity to start DOING something about it. I got in a morning walk, and in the past that has been helpful with controlling the uncontrolled eating cycle that I develop over time, and it nips it off, so I can start fresh again. I enjoyed my walk :) helps me get in a better mind set for the day.

    you just need to break that cycle and begin a new habit to replace it that is healthy...all the sugar in the honey and peanut butter for sure creates a desire for more and more....your body is looking for real nutrition. I have to be so very careful with those things as it raises my blood sugar and simply crave more.

    Oh, I'm right there with you! Scale creep, indulging in foods I know I don't need...and trying to nip it in the bud too! I like the idea of walking to tame the craving too, I've been doing some deep breathing, and asking myself if I'm actually hungry or just wanting the comfort of eating...

    Oooh I'm right there with you! I have a creepy scale too! I get so hungry later in the afternoon. I don't know what the answer is except to keep busy. I try to drink a lot of water too!

    Hi Michelle,

Great job identifying the issue and the solution! I know you were really enjoying your morning walks, and hopefully that will help eliminate your desire to eat more after work. If you really are hungry, maybe you can substitute your food choice to one that probably won't lead to a binge - maybe a piece of fruit?

I've had to work the scale down a couple of times this summer and sometimes it's slow to go and sometimes nice and quick. The important thing is to take notice and start taking action to get to where you are comfortable again.

    It happens to all of us! Something because we are lacking something, sometimes because our bodies are changing, and sometimes we just need to binge. However, you realize it is happening and you are on top of it! That is such a HUGE factor in this.

    Good luck. I have trouble with evening binges at times. It usually coincides with not sleeping enough or monthly hormones.

I know you can get it under control. You did before, no?

    Way to go nipping this in the bud! I believe cravings are our body's way of telling us we need something, whether it's a nutrient or that we need to resolve some feelings we're avoiding.

You are on the right track!

  YAY!!! For you! We all have those crazy cravings from time to time but at least you're doing something about it before it gets too far, so I say emoticon emoticon
