I had my three month doctor appointment this morning. I made sure that I took my listing of my blood sugar readings for the last three months with me. My doctor was impressed and wasn't happy I was having numbers dropping into the 50s especially during the night. He said I needed a medication adjustment - woohoo!
So since July 2011 when he wanted to put me on insulin because my numbers were so bad and I asked for some time to get the numbers down here's what has happened:
July 2011 I was on 500mg Metformin twice a day and Glipizide 10mg twice a day
then it was changed in 2012 to 500mg Metformin twice a day and Glipizide 5mg twice a day.
Today, it is Metformin 500mg twice a day and my Glipizide is now 5mg in the morning only. He was totally impressed with all that I was doing as far as my walking, walking with Leslie Sansone and bike riding. It just blew him away that I'm able to hike 5 miles in the mountains now. He's seen me at my absolute worst when I was barely able to walk. I told him that last month I hit a all time high of 2500 fitness minutes in one month. He did a little calculation in his head and he said "that's a lot!" and smiled. He was impressed when I told him that when my blood sugars have been getting so low at night my dog has been waking me up or causing me to wake up. He said some dogs were sensitive to the changes before people are. At any rate, I thank my little walking buddy, Precious, for alerting me to the changes too.
I just wanted to share the good news with you! I hope this will help motivate my brother more now that he's seen what I do and that I can bring about changes with exercise and correct diet.
It can be done. Now my next goal is to completely get rid of the Glipizide. I know it'll take a lot of work but by golly I'm up for the challenge!
My blood pressure was up a little at 143/78 - I think sometimes the added stress of dealing with my 85 year old Aunt on doctor day doesn't help any. That plus the fact I was so hungry - I hate having to fast before lab work and I had a headache all played a role in the higher blood pressure. Plus this morning I didn't calm myself with a little meditation when I got to the doctor like I usually do, my mind was too distracted.
My Aunt is having more difficulty getting around. She's starting to tire out really quick now and her legs are giving out sooner. She now has arthritis in her feet too so I know that's not helping matters. Yesterday she took a different walker with her and using it is fine in her small apartment but she needs her other one with the seat for going somewhere otherwise she gets too weak and tired like she did yesterday.
Have a fantastic day y'all. I know I will. Loving this cooler weather too. It was only 52 when I got up to go to the doctor today. Burrrr...when you're used to 80+ humid degrees at 8am.
