FIL got to sit up for a bit

Wednesday, September 04, 2013

Well after all the build up, we met the surgeon at my FIL thinking today was the day he got to stand up. They helped him sit up on the edge of the bed but only for a little bit and then he had to lay back down. So no standing up yet. It was a little disappointing as we thought today was the day he would stand. I know he was a little disappointed as I know he wants to start using the bathroom again. But I could see that he just deal with the news and said ..."so be it" and went with the new program which will be to have him sit up a few times per day. But no standing...maybe for at least another week. I am happy that he continues to be positive and not let it upset him too much. The surgeon will visit him again on Thursday and take the stitches out. They say that the incision is healing well.

I am feeling fine. The alarm down the hill continues to go on and off but again I am lucky and can sleep with ear plugs. My DH and I found the house where the alarm continues to go off and told our neighbor which house number it was as they own a rental in that neighborhood and she wanted to go to the office to report it. When she went many people have reported it but the only thing that can be done is to give out the owner's name and phone number. It's a Mexican family that lives an hour away in GDL who only use the house occasionally. So my neighbor has the number and gave it to me...only problem is not speaking fluent enough to talk to them. I might get my Mexican friend to call. We will see.

Will walk the dogs and go check in on FIL.

I hope all of you have a wonderful day.

Good that FIL is feeling positive and accepts the
doctor's advice. He will heal better if it is not rushed.
Glad you are feeling better. Have a great day. emoticon

Especially given his age, I'm glad hospital staff are being especially careful in how rapidly they approach your FIL's recovery. I'm so sorry to hear about the continued nuisance of the alarm and hope you'll soon be rid of that racket!

It least he is sitting a little and it will take time, plus they don't want to rush it and cause more problems for him.

Wish I was in your hood, Sallie! I could take care of that alarm quite easily at the low price of a good Sangria or Margarita accompanying a good Mexican meal!

Sometimes going to fast in a recovery can do more harm than good. Am sure your FIL was surprised at just how much energy it took just to sit up on the bedside. Great that he is now able to do that.

Your neighbor's alarm going off, it is interesting that no one has a key and knows how to turn it off. I thought it was something that the town had control over and had just not been able to correct it. You are right, here in the states they would be fined and the police would have already called if there is a company to call or have broken in to stop it.

Glad you are still feeling good!

As you know, slow is better for recovery as well as for weight management. It sounds like he is doing ok.

So disappointing for your FIL, but it sounds like he is taking this philosophically and understands that it's temporary. Sallie - I would have broken into that house by now. Grrrrr... Hope the sometime's there family gets it resolved soon!
