How does my garden grow

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

I don't have the largest amount of veggies from my garden and not much of the seeds grew anything, but I am pretty happy with what I got. I have been trying to get tomatoes and chili peppers for several years, but only got 2 tomatoes each year. This year I have cherry tomatoes, Early Girl tomatoes and Beefsteak tomatoes and the Early Girl and Cherry are ripening. I have a few Anaheim Peppers and a couple Big Jim peppers. Not quite ready to pick yet. So I thought I'd put in some pictures.

Tomatoes:

Zucchini weren't many, but a few got pretty big.

Just a couple really small Butternut squash. I'm not sure if they'll get a little larger or not.

The big surprise was the watermelon looking ones. I didn't plant watermelon, so took the picture to someone who does a lot of gardening and found out that my pumpkins actually did grow. I have four, I think.

I am hoping to expand the garden some so that I can plant other things next year. When all is harvested I will add manure to fertilize the area and go at least 4 ft longer and a couple feet wider if I can manage it.

I don't remember what kind the cherry tomatoes are. I didn't think that was what I had ordered, but that is okay. They have a better growing chance in the muck bucket.

My cherry tomatoes are in a muck bucket up closer to the house. Where I have the garden is downhill and the only part of the yard that gets any sun. We were looking yesterday and I think I will try to make it 4 feet wider and about 6 feet or so longer. It got crowded this year, but the center is eaten down a bit (rabbits). I have strawberries and raspberries in pots, but they haven't done too well this year. I also have several herbs in pots.

Wow, your garden looks fantastic. I usually grow cherry tomatoes as they seem to grow the easiest (and I grow in containers). Great harvest!
