Diet Bet?

Does anyone join the Diet Bet? Ever heard of it?

It stands for Diet Better -- and you bet yourself $25 that you will lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks... If you win, you divide the pot with other people who also lost 4% on their bet. If you don't make the 4%, then you're out your "bet."

The girls over at Myfitsperation (aka Hannah and Olivia from BL 11 -- ) have a team up that I'm thinking about joining.

I basically suck at dieting and exercising right now. I start great, but two or three days in I lose all my mojo. My weights back up again... its a vicious cycle right now that I'm trying to curb.

Teaching feels like a disaster. I feel like the kids are unprepared, I'm not explaining stuff right, and its a lot of information! I almost feel bad that they're expected to learn so quickly -- but then again, its college. I'm just trying to read up on everything and get some confidence!

In other news, I had to buy new work pants ;-(
A little disheartening to go up a size, but my butt just will not fit into my pants. So rather than look like a stuffed sausage, I bought new pants. So I'm thinking getting a new dang exercise motivation (Diet Bet) might get me back into my groove.

Its a little weird only being paid for five hours of work a week. The pay per hour isn't bad, but its not a livable salary. Plus I don't even think I've been officially hired. It was so last minute that we were still waiting on my transcripts to come in. I find out tomorrow.

This weekend was a little weird. I was supposed to go to Kentucky lake with TJ and meet my parents, see their boat, and the cabin they're building. Instead they got heat stroke and cancelled on us on Thursday. So I staycationed at TJ's -- and did I mention he lives with his parents... kinda hard to be alone when both of you live with your parents... So that lead to bad food choices... a lot of them... and some drinking... and some regrets. But lots of snuggling, so that was definitely nice.

Today I'm on the 'holy-crap-I-need-a-job' train. I sent out 15 e-mails to department chairs at science departments around StL looking to adjunct teach (aka--teach one class or a lab or something super part time). Apparently most adjuncts try to teach at multiple places and teach 3-5 classes at different schools, and just drive around a lot. I also have an interview to be a tutor for a company in StL, also super part time, but the pay hopefully won't be bad... oh and I also applied for six other job-jobs with companies... all before 1PM. So I've definitely put in the work to find a job today -- this economy is just being ridiculous!

My dad wanted me to run errands with him this afternoon, but I think I need to punt him off until thursday. I have two quizzes to write, two chapters of a biology text book to read, and need to prep my powerpoint presentations for class wed and friday. Luckily there's no lab this week, so I'm only "working" two hours this week *facepalm*

So I have no excuse to not workout right? That's it -- I need to sign up for the diet bet. I'm like 90% sure I'm going to do it. And then I might sign up for the YMCA to get access to their pool since its close to the institution I'm teaching at... so hmm... what else to add to my to-do list? I feel like I'm running a mile a minute right now = perfect time to go get on the treadmill!

    My sister sent me an invite to DietBet. I started this past Tuesday. I'm in the 10% in 6 month "Transformer". My sister & her husband are on it, too. I need to be accountable to someone (besides me), so this may really do the trick for me :) I've lost quite a lot of weight here at SP, but I'm hoping the DietBet, my FitBit (I've had it 4 months and LOVE it) and my new treadmill are going to kick butt :)

    I'm intrigued by this diet bet thing. I don't know if I'm willing to put up money yet. Hmm...that may speak volumes to my fitness motivation right now. :)

    Teachers put in so many out of class hours it's just crazy! I hope this goes well for you and the job searching does also!

    Teachers ALWAYS put in more hours than they are getting "paid" for, so it definitely takes down the $$/hour.

    When I first started teaching in a community college I found I gave them too much information, expected them to do too much homework, and lost a lot of students as a result. You can't be expected to cover the whole book....didn't your department chair hook you up with someone else who is teaching the course? We always "gave" materials to the adjuncts so they didn't have to invent the wheel. At least you should ask; it will give you something to get started with. You can always tweak.

    The diet bet is interesting..monetary motivation! Also, all your talking about teaching makes me jealous! Sorry to hear you've been struggling so much. I hope that once you are in less of a limbo that things will start going better for you.

    I'm doing a Diet Bet right now and it has really gotten me back on track. My friend Carrie suckered me into doing it and I thought 7 pounds in 4 weeks would be impossible. I have 2 pounds to go and about 9 days so I think I can make it! Carrie on the other hand has given up already! Which is very disheartening but it just goes to show that even money can't get certain people to stay healthy. I did a 50 dollar bet so there's n o way I want to lose that kind of money! Let me know if you sign up and I might start a new one!
