September...

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

I'm back from my vacation, and I'll eventually post about my 11 days away, but for now - I cannot believe it is September now. I've been seeing tons of commercials for fall stuff, and tons of pinterest pins for pumpkin everything! When I left for work this morning, I expected it would be a chilly fall day! But it's still looking like it will be in the 80s here today in Colorado - so I guess we arent quite at fall weather just yet!

Just wanted to do a quick recap of August's goals and set some new goals for September. August was pretty rough for me so I didnt achieve many goals, but I am working on myself still, so thats whats really important!

emoticon Stick to my marathon training plan emoticon
After completing my longest run ever in teh beginning of the month (14 miles), I skipped out on runs for two weeks - work stress, feeling tired. Just didnt want to wake up early on Saturday morning and run. So, I made the decision to not run the marathon. Honestly, the stress of waking up earlier and earlier to accomplish runs I am not excited about - I think its better to put this on hold. I am still planning to run half marathons though, and while on vacation I even got in a long run of 8 miles on a very hot and 90% humid morning in Jersey! I am more excited now to get back to running again and just focus on half marathons.

emoticon Strength train 2x per week. emoticon
I definitely failed on this. I am not actually sure I strength trained at all during the month of August - and it shows because my arms are utterly flabby! :(

emoticon Yoga 1x per week emoticon
Yup. Didnt do this either. I am just going to admit that I dont enjoy it. And I am done trying to.

emoticon Read 3 books. emoticon
Woohoo! I met a goal! I actually far surpassed this goal, and read 6 books! I finished one prior to vacation, and then I actually read 6 more while on vacation (but one was after September started). Thats a lot of productive reading!! And I am almost where I need to be to hit my goal of 40 books this year! So, if I just keep on the reading productivity, I could indeed make my goal after all! Thank you, Young Adult novels for the easy mindless reading :)

emoticon Complete 2 craft projects. emoticon
I did indeed do this as well. I actually finished two easy projects in one morning, and I've also been slowly working on a very complicated cross-stitch. I also bought a new sewing machine in August, but have yet to actually sew anything - but excited to get started sometime soon!

Ok, not the best of months, I know. During August, I also went to the mental health clinic on base and started getting treatment for vicarious trauma from my job. I have my second appointment today actually, and I am somewhat looking forward to it.

Overall, August was an incredibly stressful (work-related) month for me. I felt like my job was also putting a strain on my relationship, but I think things are fine between us now. I am looking forward to making more improvements in September, though there will still be the work stress, and I will be travelling again this month.

Here are my September Goals:

emoticon Run 3x per week - keeping up distances for a half marathon in October.

I was planning to run a 1/2 this month but since I didnt run for a few weeks and my most recent long run was only 8 miles, I decided to just work on my mileage again for a few weeks, and then plan to run Rock & Roll Denver 1/2 in October. Still debating whether to do a 10k this month or not. I've never actually doen a 10k race, so it is tempting!

emoticon Strength Train 3x per week.

After feeling really self-conscious about my flabby arms at both weddings I went to (even though I am sure no one else noticed), I am ready to put together a basic strength training plan. I need to make sure I set aside the time during the week to get in the workouts, so finding something basic that gets the job done will be what I am searching for, for now.

emoticon Read 4 books this month.

I am determined to try as hard as possible to make my 40 book goal this year. YA novels seem to be the way to go. Also, reading instead of watching tv. :) But I feel like I am back in the reading mind-sight, and plane rides definitely help!

emoticon Complete 2 craft projects.

I have one already planned -a wreath for J in Florida Gator colors, now that it is football season again. I am also planning to make a wreath for myself, but havent decided on what style yet. I plan on finally getting started on actually sewing my table top quilt!

emoticon Re-organize my craft room and master bathroom.

I've been obsessing lately about re-organizing my craft room to make it more user-friendly - I've been accumulating more and more stuff, but once I store it in boxes I cant find anything, so I need a better storage method. I am finally picked out some new Ikea furniture for the craft room and plan on heading to Ikea this weekend to purchase so I can start re-organizing ASAP. My master bathroom is also a complete disaster because nothing is organized. I've got some great ideas on pinterest that I am hoping to implement this month also!

So thats about it for now, I think. I am exhausted today because I didnt get back home until 9:30pm last night. Buffy was really worn-out too and while I was getting ready for work this morning, she was sound asleep on my bed (usually she is running around outside!). I only had 50 unread emails to come back to this morning, but thats also becuase I read some of them while I was away. I am already feeling overwhelmed and I've only been in the office for an hour! But I just have to take everything one day at a time... I am already looking forward to the weekend. Especially because after not being at my house for 11 days, I really want to get it organized and do some serious cleaning.

Though, I will tell you. One of the best feelings ever is walking back into *my* house after being gone for a while. It's so comforting to know it's mine. (I clearly spent way too much time at my parents' house recently!).

Oh, and I forgot to mention: I start dance classes this week! Tonight is a hip hop class and Thursday is a jazz class. Still have to shop and pick up shoes after work today before my first class!

I also have book and craft goals! I hope you are off to a great Sept. Sounds like you did the best with what August dealt you. Mental health always comes first!

I think the half marathon distance is so much more manageable than the marathon distance. I have run one marathon and many half marathons and I honestly enjoy the half marathons much better. You can train for a half marathon and still have a life but marathon training takes up to much time and energy, at least for me it does. I also don't think it's healthy to be doing hours upon hours of cardio - your body needs a break!

I am glad you met some of your goals and are setting some new, good ones for September. Can you believe it is fall already?!?!
