The Lil Miss

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

It's September now which means I can start counting the days until my granddaughter is born. To say that I am excited would be a vast understatement, but it's been a journey. When I think of Grandmas, I picture my own who was a tiny, wizened old lady with white hair who was wheelchair bound by arthritis. She died in her 70's when I was in 4th grade. It's been interesting reconciling the stereotype in my head with the reality of me! I'm an active 48 year old who loves to run, bike, dance, and get silly on occasion. But in a few short weeks, I will be a grandma. Woohoo!

I got to thinking this weekend about who this little person will be. Will she inherit the love of water that her great grandmother, father, and I have? The peace in our souls that we feel when we are by a lake or river...will she feel that? Will she love to read as her uncle and I do? Will she let books transport her to places far and wide? Will she take after her grandfathers from both sides and be mechanically inclined? A future engineer perhaps? Oh, the possibilities this little one has!

Then I thought of the responsibilities I have to help her achieve her potential. I've been in the habit of rubbing my daughter-in-law's belly and leaning down low to whisper that grandma loves her. She will hear that from me every single time I see her forever! This Lil Miss will know that she is loved unconditionally. She will always have a safe place to land if she needs it. She will have an honest, open opinion if she asks for it. I can't wait to laugh and dance and read and fingerpaint and do so many other things with her!

Grandma loves you Lil Miss and can't wait to meet you!!

Grandkids are lovely--I have four, all girls. The estrogen levels are quite high and I revel in it. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine! And being 51, I've always thought I was too young for grandkids, but I wouldn't have it any other way, lol.

Love this blog. Grandchildren are such a blessing. We have 13 of them! Just had 2 greatchildren added recently. Each of the grandchildren has something in them that we recognize in ourselves. Some way more than others. The facial expressions, posture, or maybe similar intellectual qualities. One of my daughters looks so much like me, that it is scary. Virtually everyone we meet comments on it. I know I'm rambling here, but you started it, by talking about grandchildren.... LOL.
