FAT - here's the skinny - but we don't listen

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

i see the 'low fat choco muffin' recipe featured -
while i don't advocate over doing fats in our diet - i thought all the information/trials and failures with 'low fat everything' starting in the late sixties, into the 70's and well into the 80's was now quite thoroughly debunked.
it is very well known that when the fat (TASTE) is removed = it has to be replaced with sugars, fillers and other harmful substances which are worse for us- all of us, not just those trying to reduce our weight.
there have been hundreds of discussions, articles and plans showing people like Dr.Atkins were not so crazy and off the mark.
i personally did not do well on Atkins simply because when i tried it years ago - it was far too strict for me and i sorely missed fruits and salads. it has been modified quite a bit as i understand.
none the less - i would rather have a tblsp of real sour cream on my potatoe than a drizzle of the no fat/low fat version which does not deliver the same mouth feel, or appetite satisfaction and leaves you wanting more - that 'something just isn;t right' feeling.
a small pat of real butter on some whole grain bread - is far more satisfying.
your body recognizes 'food' and your brain registers that you are trying to 'fool' it.
we all know artificial sweeteners are such bad news it is unbelievable they are still on the market. not only do they not satiate- but create cravings and rise blood sugar levels which is killer for pre diabetics and full blown ones. not too mention they have been linked to many other maladies - such as bladder cancer.
again i say - we are lied to, duped into all sorts of false information just to sell the product, or the book, and again i say - it is the younger females generation who are on the rocky road to disappointment , disillusion, and being dissatisfied with their body image.
will the time ever come that there is truth in advertising? i suspect NEVER - so we have to become wiser.
does any one remember the phen-fen debacle? but if a 'diet miracle pill' came out right now there would be line ups that would rival any rock concert.
common people - let's not allow ourselves to be duped -
get back to basics in your diet if you are confused - just remember - foods in their most natural state - fresh as you can possibly get them - eat in moderation - be sensible and kind to yourself.
fat does not make you fat -

People are so used to buy what's put in front of them and promise short term results. So the brains reached the conclusion quickly that low cal means no weight gain despite the negatives.

Wise words! I recently returned to adding a teensy bit of olive oil to my salad after I read the healthy fat would help my body get more of the nutrients from the veggies. Not that I hadn't read it before, but it just didn't sink in.
