Labor DAY Weekend Adventures (pics)

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

We had such a great weekend , these past 4 days. We left last Thursday to go up to our little cabin and to spend time with our daughter and her family. This is a yearly tradition.

This is a new item that was added to our deck this past weekend. My friend gave us this table top that she had made from a 500 year old piece of wood. (She calculated the rings.)

We stopped at Wal-Mart in Flagstaff as we forgot paddles & life jackets that we would need for a 3 man raft that we bought for the grsons to enjoy over the weekend.

Here are some beautiful flowers that I saw by the road

It is a 3 hour drive from home to Williams, Az. where our cabin is and we had not eaten lunch yet. So, we stopped into our favorite place, Pine Country and shared a green chilli burrito special & sugar free chocolate banana cream pie.

It had been raining all week and the forecast called for more rain. Friday a/m...we headed for the Grand Canyon leaving behind a huge rain storm. Looking behind this is what we saw

I also saw this old coral with all these wild flowers around it.

These "Black-eyed Susans" are everywhere in this area during this time of year. Can`t you just see this picture in an Arizona Highways magazine?

We headed towards the canyon which was an hour drive away and we had good weather all day. It was a beautiful day.
Someone offered to take our picture.

Here are just a few that I took.

We had a beautiful day and headed back home. On our way out of the park.....we saw some elk beside the road. There were about 7 in all...the male was not in sight.

On our way back to the cabin......I saw these clouds and were fascinated by them. I followed them for over 30 miles.

We have a lake nearby, Kaibab Lake. We arrived there just in time to see this rainbow reflected in the water. I thought of the bible verse, Psalms 19:1...."the heavens declare the glory of GOD; the skies proclaim the work of HIS hands." My camera didn`t capture the beauty of this magnificent sight but I will forever see it in my mind.

Later that night we went into town. This is their tourist season and since Williams is noted for its rich western history....they hold gun fights in the streets each night during the summer.

The next morning .....Saturday, our daughter and her family arrived.
Bryce age 16

It started to rain so Matt (age 12) enjoyed playing in it.

Before we could have dinner that evening, my daughter, Christy and I went into town. We came home using the back roads and took time for a few photos of the wild flowers.

That evening we cooked s`mores by the campfire.

These are camping sandwich makers that my grsons are making grilled cheese sandwiches with.

Sunday we woke up to sunny skies so we had the opportunity to go to the lake and play with the raft.

The lake is muddy looking because it is so low due to drought. But still a pretty lake.

Afterwards we went to "Pine Country" and we all had pie. The restaurant is called "PIE Country" by me and my family. My favorite is p-nut butter chocolate banana cream.

Monday morning.....it was time to head home. Family had left....David (husband) and I followed shortly behind. We were headed away from the cabin....because there was so much water in the road, we got stuck and I had to call AARP for roadside service.

45 minutes to wait for him and 5 minutes to pull us out.

We finally got on our way about 12:30 but ran into some heavy holiday traffic about 2 hours from home.

We made it home about 4:30 p/m which was actually only 1 hour longer than it usually takes.

I was thankful that we did not see any accidents . There were lots of cops out and they had cars pulled over on the side of the road, probably for speeding.

If you are ever up and around Williams, Arizona....stop by and say "Hi" Just bring your own coffee as we are diet coke drinkers.

One of my favorite things to do is to sit on this glider, read, soaking in GODs` beauty and drinking my cold diet coke.

This is our street address......53 E Greenbriar
Hope to see you real soon.

Another wonderful blog entry filled with Gods beauty! The rainbow over the water in the evening was amazing and, like you mentioned, I'm sure the photo didn't do it justice. I saw some similar clouds on our move from Utah to the east coast. They mesmerized me. I had never seen anything like them before and I took may pictures.

Have you ever seen those photo books you can make on your own? Your blogs would be wonderful turned into a forever memory for your family. I think its called snapfish. My daughter made one of the grandchildren and it turned out lovely.

Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Cristen

Callie, you are a Writer!! and a photographer! Beautifully done. Christie is now towered over by her hood looking sons. I bet "Pie Country" would appreciate knowing about your love for them and all your great pics. Have you ever gone to their FB page and posted there? Might end up getting a free pie!

This is my favorite blog ever Callie, pies and all! emoticon

What a story you tell with the pictures of your cabin, the sky, the flowers, and your family. And what I blessing it is and will be, to have these wonderful pictures of this time with your husband. You two are a blessing to each other and those around you.

Good thing you have AAA, I use a service that will actually take care of my horse trailer and horses too, if need be and once when I was hauling my horses through Phoenix, during the summer, I had a blowout on the busy freeway going into Phoenix, which US Rider fixed and then going out of Phoenix, which Us Rider had to fix also. This was all ln the same day! emoticon I was ready to cry after the second time but the US Rider rep was so kind and compassionate and stayed on the phone with me the entire time. He helped a very stressful time (because I was concerned about my horses in the hot trailer, on the highway) be not so bad.

Looking forward to more blogs about your adventures!

Very beautiful. Looks like you had a wonderful time. I especially like the Black-Eyed Susans. They are one of my favorite flowers - right along with sunflowers. My husband and I took in one of the gun fight shows in Williams in 2006 when we visited the Grand Canyon. I loved the photos - you are such a story teller.
