Looooong Weekend: Labour Day!

Monday, September 02, 2013

Oh yeah.

I spent some looooong hours at the office, labouring! How appropriate is that? Saturday was chores. Most of Sunday and a big chunk of Monday was work work: had to get the docs done for a deadline, not my choice.

Some stuff really requires the concentration that's only possible when there are no phone calls or appointments.

However gotta say -- it is really interesting work and definitely feels worthwhile. Just have to hope that all the prep generates some of the result we're looking for.

And: when things get a bit more relaxed, believe me I'll have no hesitation about taking some mid-week time off. September and October are two of my favourite months of the year and I'll want to get outside as much as possible.

We did manage to carve out time to take Charlie for a reasonably good hike mid-afternoon today. Goldenrod, some white and pale mauve wild asters, and I saw my first woolly bear caterpillar of the fall! He was just hurtling himself across the road, must have had sneakers on all of those little feet!!

Salads made, some darker transitional cottons pressed . . . I'm glad to have those time-sensitive work obligations under control so I'm not panicking, just feeling all ready for the regular week ahead.

So glad you got things done you needed to and hope that your overtime work pays off for you!
We have been seeing tons of those fuzzy caterpillars here -mostly the black and orange ones, but some all grey ones -they match the trails and I joke they are camouflaged because they are tired of getting eaten up by the birds :P Also seeing some asters too, but the goldenrod have all gone to seed.
Way to keep on top of things!!

It sounds like you got a lot of things done that needed to be done for the week ahead. I hope you get the desired results. I also find that you can get a lot done when no one else is around.

At least you got a nice walk in! I am starting to layer up as it is in the 50s..

Have a good Monday Spark Friend!

It is unfortunate that you had to work, though not stressing if priceless.

Your mention of the woolly bear reminded me of the legend, the wider that middle brown section is the milder the coming winter will be. Conversely, a narrow brown band is said to predict a harsh winter. Do you recall the what was forecast? :)

Sorry you had to work on a holiday, but so glad you got your hike with Charley. Great attitude toward your work. Sure hope your efforts (documents) pay off and you get the results you are looking for. And then you get your play time during mid-week. Enjoy! -Marsha

I heard on the news today that 39% of Americans work on Labor Day. So you were in good company!

Glad you got out this afternoon with your sweeties. Have a good week!

Autumn/Fall is my favorite season even though our seasons in Central Texas are not very distinct as in other parts of the world.

Today wasn't as sticky hot as it's been here, so we can imagine Autumn coming... September and October are great months! Which brings me to your Wooly Bear caterpillar... what kind of Winter did he predict for you?

Farmer's Almanac is predicting snowy and bitter here.

However it comes, we get to live with it, huh?

Spark on!

I love September and October, too. And I love being retired so I can be productive in my own way.
