Such a joy being a grandma

Sunday, September 01, 2013

The look on my grandson's face as he checks out his Toy Story cake, particularly Woody saluting him on his third birthday, warms my heart. He is such a joy, and I feel immensely blessed that God has brought him into our lives. I had given up hope of being a grandmother. I have two daughters, and my older daughter was told by doctors that she could not have children. My younger daughter was not interested in having children. And then a miracle happened, and on September 1, 2010, Samuel was born to my older daughter. On December 23, 2011, almost 16 months later, she gave birth to Jacob. So much for the doctors' predictions. God had a better plan for us.

This is Jacob taking a break from the festivities of Sam's birthday celebration to catch up on his reading. Jake is trying to keep up with his older brother. He is growing pretty quickly, and I'm amazed at how independent he can be at 20 months. But he's still a baby and loves to be held, especially when he's sleepy. Recently he has developed a fascination with books, and would sit and turn the pages. Hopefully he'll continue to enjoy reading as he grows up.

It is such a pleasure to be with my grandsons, and I'm so grateful that God, in his infinite mercy, allowed me the opportunity to feel such joy. Thank you for allowing me to introduce you to two awesome little guys, and to share my joy of being a grandma.

You have a beautiful family, and these two little angels are adorable indeed! Your daughter was definitely given a special gift with the births of first Samuel and then Jacob - aren't miracles incredible!!!

My older son and DIL each had a young daughter when they first met and have since added 2 boys to the mix. My son's daughter doesn't live with them, sadly - she's in Quebec ( we're in Southwestern Ontario) with her mother so we only see her at Christmas and during the summer. Plus, since my son and DIL both work odd hours, we don't see the others all that often either even though they only live about 15 minutes away.

My oldest daughter though has a little one just about a month older than your Jacob and we see her as often as possible. She too is a special gift from God - if you are interested in reading about how she came into our lives, I wrote a blog about it " A True Miracle Gift of Love" ( 01 Dec / 11).

And, naturally there are a number of other blogs I've done since then full of pictures of my precious little Emily as she has grown ...

Since neither of my 2 younger offspring show any signs of marrying or having their own children, I suspect the 5 grandchildren already here may well be all that we will have.

I can tell by your blog that you enjoy Samuel and Jacob as much as I enjoy Emily ( and her cousins too, of course)

He is so cute and yes I too hope he loves to keep reading. Just tell him that books take him places that he may not be able to go to but books can take you there, That is what I did with my two.
