September already!

Sunday, September 01, 2013

I can't believe it's September 1. Time to evaluate a few things. Wow, the summer went by fast. It is still pretty warm here in Portland, so it doesn't really feel like summer is winding down, but since I start back to work in 3 days, I know it is. I am looking forward to cooler temperatures and falling leaves.

I am so happy about my weight loss for the summer, I lost 15 lbs. since school ended in June! Woo Hoo! That is more than I thought I could lose!

I have found surprising is that I have "only" been walking for exercise, and I have been very successful at losing weight. I guess I had it in my head that I needed to go to the gym and do at least an hour of strenuous exercise to be successful, but since my ankle and foot have been bothering me, I have been walking no more than 45 minutes daily at a moderate to slow pace, and it is working beautifully! No more gym fees (35.00 a month), no more personal trainer fees (a year ago I spent over $600.00 on a trainer! emoticon ), and no more driving and finding a parking place in a crowded parking lot. I have just been squeezing in two twenty minute or so walks a day. Easy Peasy.

Keeping myself busy (well, at least "occupied") has also been a great strategy for me. I have been making "to-do" lists, keeping them short so I don't get overwhelmed, and I started a new hobby of painting rocks, which is fun! My overeating has really decreased since I have made an effort to stay busier, plus it has helped my depression quite a bit.

Today my goals are:

drink water
paint rocks
one chore
research blueberry recipes (we picked some yesterday)
home mani/pedi

I hope everyone is doing well and having a healthy day! We can do it!

Hot and miserable here. I'm looking forward to cooler temps.

Congratulations on the weight loss this summer. You did great!

My doctor insists that the only exercise one really needs is walking at my age.

Good luck with your goals!

Wha-oh! What a great achievement on your weight loss. Congrats !! I've started walking also to lose weight. Luckily I was able to to buy treadmill and that has helping me a lot. Best investment ever made in my life time. I like your hobby. You've made very cute one very time.
That really seems lifting up your sprits. Way to go!

You sound so absolutely "grounded"! Lovely to hear, and yes, that jealousy you "hear" in my voice.

I agree that it seems the summer literally flew by - a little scary, though I love autumn, too. You've certainly spent yours well, though, with a 15 pound weight loss victory, and improved fitness. Wow, congratulations on both!

Hope you have a wonderful week, enjoy the return to school, and continue to paint your rocks. I'd love to see more pictures of them.

Wow, that is amazing to lose 15 pounds. It is particularly hard in summer when things are more unstructured. Fabulous strategies on your part! emoticon
