picnics in the park
Sunday, September 01, 2013
I remember going on picnics with my family when growing up. On sunny afternoons, we would pack a nice lunch, and drive to the Monadnock State Park, and eat a lunch. We would run through the woods, climb at least part way up the mountain, then eat a little more, and drive home.
Picnics were important activities for a family with six kids! They were a healthy way to spend an afternoon. Everyone would go home happy, dirty and tired.
According to interim Monadnock State Park Manager Susan Tirrell, "there are still picnic tables at Monadnock, but they are not used as much." "Most of the picnics occur at the Gilson Pond Campground area."
On busy summer weekends, the picnic area at the Headquarters is full of cars parked in closely. The family picnics happen near the playground at Gilson Pond area.
Our upcoming picnic will also be held at the Gilson Pond area. Please join us for an old fashioned kind of event-picnicking in the Monadnock State Park!
