mri update/ neuralgia

Sunday, September 01, 2013

I can't believe so long has passed since I last blogged- vacation over- back to work- trying to get back into the routine of switching back and forth between days and nights while maintaining healthy eating (not such a problem) and a healthy balance of activity- ALWAYS A PROBLEM . Tonight I am taking time to blog because my body is sending reminders that neuralgia still is a problem. I had my MRI done in July before leaving on vacation and saw my doctor when we both returned form our respective vacations for the results. There are some spots of pressure being applied to my trijeminal nerve- totally explains that feeling on the side of my face that drives me crazy at times. there are also some unexplained areas that require further follow up- I have been referred to a neurologist and got a call back on appointment time for Oct 4th. My symptoms are always better controlled when I am sleeping well. While on vacation I rested lots and was virtually symptom free- beginning to think I was making too much of what I was experiencing. But within 3 weeks of "normal" living- wife, mom, caregivier, breadwinner....- the generalized weakness is creeping up again~not just my face, but my whole body is affected. I'm getting 7-8 hours of sleep daily ( 10-11 on vacation), still eating healthy but not as consistant in activity, and less energy to enjoy it anyway. The other thing I noticed once getting home is that my husband and kids aren't as available to enjoy active adventures with me (on vacation we got up , loaded the van and they were my captives- they did what I did- I was the driver and meal ticket and we were far from home- how could they say no?) at home their own activities , friends and interests take priority in their lives- Guess I need to find a walking buddy, or maybe a dog? With school and fall programming starting this week I better get my butt in gear.
Today is another upside downday, 1 more night shift to go. I'll set my alarm early Monday- only sleep for 5 hours when I get off work, then reload the van with my family and head for our nearest National Park (45 mminutes away)- It is supposed to be a beautifully warm day, I have a picnic BBQ meal planned and we should be able to enjoy another walking adventure together before the reality of September (and school) hits my kids full force, maybe even see a few buffalo while we're at it- anyone want to join us?

Gotta be hard switching back and forth between shifts.
Dogs are great companions and exercise buddies, and you can usually find some kind of hotel that has a doggy room or two if you don't just do camping.
Amazing what a role stress plays in our health, isn't it?
Praying the Lord helps you work things out, so you find your peace in Him. Shel

Colleen, I am hoping they can figure out something for you on the 4th!!!
I wonder.... would acupuncture help? Ever try it? I never have but I know some people swear by it.
You definitely can see a pattern though so be sure to write notes to take to your appointment. ...it helps already with you being in the field, you know what to ask.
This shift stuff certainly can't be good!!!
It's good you're going out today! Try to rest, relax and enjoy the day.

You remain in my thoughts.
