It's september 1st, back to school time on so many friend feeds whether facebook or here. I don't have a dog in that fight, or child in that system, whichever metaphor you prefer (it's probably the latter, isn't it?), but I was at a 2 year old's birthday party earlier, and hearing the songs the little ones were warbling, and wondering what sorts of songs I'd be singing to any hypothetical children, at that age or otherwise, were they to someday to become real. I think they'd have to be along the lines of what I actually listen to, just taken from the more innocuous end of that stuff. Like, the Beatles song, "Yellow Submarine". Of course, I haven't any clue whether it's really some sort of drug reference. I know what I'm doing when I finish typing this blog. Anyway, I found out the other day that my contract at the current position will end at the end of this month. It's what I anticipated, as the organization is in a budget crunch, and there are a number of other consultant types who will be ending their work there between now and the end of the month. A few key contractors are being kept on, but they've essentially been told they won't be renewed after December. Fair enough, I wish the organization luck, and thanks for having me for the past few months.
No panic, or worry here, and a lot of that has to do with the nature of the work I'm doing. The people who I'm employed by basically act as middle men for my services. If I don't work, then they don't get paid. So it's in their interest to find me a position. Curious as to how soon the next thing will come together. Curious as to where it will be. Curious if it will be as decent a spot as this was, both in terms of who I got to work with as well as ease of travel. But not worried. It's a good spot to be in, as far as not knowing where I'll be working a month from now goes.
