Keeping busy!

Sunday, September 01, 2013

I have only been in school for a week and I'm already busy! I love it!
My eating habits are still not good, but I figure once I get settled and back into the school routine, I will have more time and energy to focus on nutrition. My mini accomplishment for the week is getting online to write this blog instead of going and eating a whole bunch of unhealthy stuff before bed!

I have been extremely motivated in music and school this past week. I wish I could be this way about everything...especially my goal to be healthier!
Today has been an extremely productive day, so I didn't eat that often...but when I did, it wasn't healthy at all. Other than that, it has been a great day.
I finished all of my homework, walked to the store to get my flute book, practiced violin for four hours, flute for an hour, and french horn for 30 minutes. They are all going really well! My technique on violin is improving immensely and I am feeling more and more confident about putting on recital in the spring. I'm learning some extremely difficult music, but it's actually coming along. I may even perform in some competitions this year!
My program would be as follows:
A short opening piece
BACH Sonata No. 1 in g minor (the 2nd movement fugue is proving to be the hardest thing I have ever attempted to learn)
BEETHOVEN Sonata No. 5 "Spring"
SAINT-SAENS Concerto No. 3 (a few of you chose this one a while back when I was having trouble deciding which concerto to learn next) I absolutely love this concerto!

Flute and horn are coming along well too. I started flute on Tuesday and couldn't even make a decent sound and now I am able to play my required material with the correct notes AND up an octave...which just makes me really excited. I think it's a big accomplishment for being a string player. My horn sound is getting pretty good too.

Anyways, as you can see, I have been pretty successful with everything BUT food and fitness. I'm even ahead in my homework now. Hopefully soon I will be able to focus more on my health goals. I don't know why it's so hard for me to do!
It has been nice reading blogs and statuses and seeing what my SparkFriends have been up to. I will be back again soon to check in!

That's a great program you are undertaking - the Beethoven is great - it's one I did at college in the eighties, my concerto at this stage for me was the Kabalevsky C minor op.48. The Saint-Saens is very ambitious so you must already be quite an accomplished player to manage something of this level. So pleased to hear you have settled in so well and that everything is going so well for you.

Cheers

I have always wanted to play the flute! Wind instruments were not my forte...LOL! Piano, guitar, banjo were my strong points. SAINT-SAENS is one of my favorite composers! Beethoven has my heart, though!
I think the eating healthier will fall into place. You have a lot going on. Take small steps towards reaching your eating goals. Don't focus on what you are't doing... focus on what you ARE doing right!

Well done, I have great admiration for being able to swap instruments like that. As a wind and brass player I have never managed to play any string instruments. I can never get past the squeaking stage!
