This week I have successfully avoided 4 cakes, one of which was a chocolate Carvel ice cream cake at a 12-year old's birthday celebration. I did allow myself one bite and decided that was enough.
Last night it was a coconut yellow cake at my sister's house and I did not even taste it.
Last weekend, there were 2 cakes at our event: a carrot cake with cream cheese icing (a personal all-time fave) and a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I contented myself with one lick of icing and then walked away.
It's times like these when I barely recognize myaelf. My former self would have been all over those cakes. But it felt liberating to be able to set limits for myself and stick to my plan. I've been satisfying my sweet tooth with 90-calorie Twix ice cream bars, never more than one per day.
