Going orange for September

Saturday, August 31, 2013

Share Our Strength, an organization that fights hunger (particularly childhood hunger) in the US, is "going orange" to draw attention to this huge problem. They've partnered with Food Network and Cooking Channel to raise awareness and funds to combat hunger in this country.

This hits home for me. I was a hungry kid, and I take it VERY personally when a child goes hungry. Children who are malnourished can't attain their full potential, and they're not the only ones who lose out. Our entire society loses out on the gifts these children aren't able to develop. Feed kids appropriately, and the country and the world gain from their intelligence and creativity.

I donate to Share Our Strength, and I'm making my Irish page orange for the month of September (orange is also a traditionally Irish color). If you're interested in helping, here's a link:

Green will return in October, but this has my full support.

I agree totally with your comments - I was a little surprised that you would use ORANGE - it seems to me that is a color not often used by those who use GREEN. I support Share Our Strength so I will excuse the ORANGE. LOL

This is a better cause for Americans than groups that try to feed everyone else in the world. emoticon emoticon

emoticon You're such a sweetie for posting this link... and for making your page orange, too (I associate it as much as I do green with all things Irish :). I've heard one child in five in America is "food-insecure," the current term used that I equate with "hungry." Share Our Strength is a wonderful organization! Thanks for the heads-up :) emoticon
