Shh! Don't say Beetlejuice 3 times

Saturday, August 31, 2013

I am at work and it is pretty slow (never say that! - it's like calling on Beetlejuice)

I had written a long blog last week and wanted to attach a picture so I tried and the blog vanished. Don't know why. It has happened before and not happened before. I didn't get too stressed since I get stressed enough.

Sometimes, you just can't explain things. Last time I worked at the hospital, it was CRAZY busy! I had an admission at least every 45 minutes. Now I am 8 hours into a 12 hour shift and only 2. Sometimes I can see the 20 patients I have to see in 5 hours, sometimes it takes 8. Sometimes I follow my diet and exercise to a T and my weight is steady. Sometimes I fall off the wagon and lose. Who knows? The universe sorts things out, I think.

I am trying to get ready for our vacation to England. Back in December I asked my husband if he wanted to go to England to see the Steelers or to the 24 hours of LeMans for his 60th birthday. He chose the Steelers but then he watched something on History about the Goodwood Revival and wanted to do that. It's a vintage car race in Southern England. I started researching and on Valentine's Day, I found a tour including the race (our airfare and tickets to the race would have been $1000 less than the 9 d tour that includes hotels, several museums and attractions, and food so even though you can argue long about independent travel vs tours, we're doing the tour) and started the ball rolling. And now it's almost here!

We fly out 9/12 from Dulles (near my brother's house so he'll keep my car) on Virgin Airlines which is supposed to be awesome. We get to Heathrow the next AM and go right to an auto museum. The next day is the revival. It is encouraged for you to wear "period dress" so I got some hose with back seams (a story for another day with the little thing from Victoria's secret saying "oh, you don't need a large. you're not really big at all") I haven't gotten a dress yet-- hope to score one at the community theatre costume shop next week. There is a place where they will do your hair and makeup and I think I will splurge. I got the braids in Jamaica and loved it so why not?

I read someone's blog about their boss wanting them to leave a phone on during vacation and I am worried re: work while I'm away. When I was in Vegas last year I spent about an hour a night so I wasn't inundated when I got home. I'll see how the internet is in the hotel. If nothing else, the plane has wifi so I may be able to work on the flight home.

I hope I have a good time-- just so much to worry about before we get there.

Hey, what do you know. 20 minutes and still quiet.
Beetlejuice -- oops that's 3!

Addendum--got 5 admissions in last 35 minutes of shift :)

I LOVE the story about your Victoria's Secret hose. EXCELLENT. You do look good!

Splurge, splurge, splurge. You work hard, you should play hard.

The trip to England sounds great. I hope you can turn your phone/email off. It's so good to clear the mind of all work for a bit. It'll be there when you get back. Have a great trip!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the trip. I always hate the weeks beforehand as there is so much to remember and do but once I arrive at destination it always settles down! Being on the tour may well help you to avoid all those endless queues at castles that seem to dominate tourist destinations.

Some days are crazy busy & some days aren't. I think that's pretty common no matter where you work. Hang in there! emoticon emoticon
