Family Time and My Ankle

Saturday, August 31, 2013

Well, this Labor Day weekend, I'm spending quality time with my family. This week, I have been nursing my ankle. I'm not sure what I did. I did not hurt it during a run. Ugh! So, today, I went out with my mother and aunt to see if I could get in a short run in. However, my ankle had other plans. It started to hurt at a pace of 10.25. So, I stopped. I ended up walking with a little running of 3.2 miles with my mother and aunt. I was so proud of my mother because we both ran down a particular hill on the path and she wasn't shortness of breath. She was able to talk to me. Now, I'm back to taking care of my ankle with the RICE method. I may not be able to run at my normal pace until I'm completely healed, but that's okay. Once more, if it means I will be doing some walking during that Half Marathon in November, then so be it! I'm determined to do that race with the goal of finishing it! In September and October, I will be taking it easy with my runs and continue to take care of my body as well as eating better.

Our bodies can be a mystery, can't they! Sometimes I can't figure out where all of my ackes and pains come from! ! I hope this is nothing serious with your ankle. DON'T FORGET TO KEEP IT WRAPPED IN AN ACE BANDAGE WHEN YOU RUN.

Hope your ankle feels better soon! I know what it feels like to have an injury that prevents you from doing what you want to do! What is the rice method? Must learn new things to help heal myself if I injure myself again! emoticon

Love your way of thinking on the race! Yes, as long as you finish the race, that's all that matters! Again, wishing your ankle a speedy recovery!

Good for you take care of you. I too went on a 5 mile walk this morning with my twin sister and a good friend. (lots of hills) they tricked me emoticon . I to am dealing with a ankle issue. I am pretty sure I have weak ankles since I have torn ligaments in the past in both ankles. but my right ankle continues to give me problems. So this morning I stepped in a opening and almost went down and the throbbing started but I fished the two hour walk. (Not that I had a choice.) and I have been icing and elevating all day. Your story shows me we all deal with bumps in the road and we will get thru them one step at a time. emoticon

Good luck with your ankle. I hope you are able to nurse it back to health. I have been struggling with first a calf issue and now an ankle and foot issue. It's been about 6 mos of PT and I think I'll have to get an MRI to see what's really going on. I haven't really tried to run much on it, but I do zumba and yoga and alot of walking. It is chronically sore and quite annoying. Anyway, all the best for a speedy recovery. You are so foturnate to have your mom and aunt to run with, that is awesome! good luck in the marathon and don't push thru the pain.
