It was something the Sleep Doc said

Saturday, August 31, 2013

I was surprised when she said that I was a candidate for sleep apnea because I don't snore or gasp according to my husband. But she pointed out that I tend to breathe through my mouth. And I tend to wake up with a dry throat and I'm most congested at night. That got me thinking - no animals get on my bed or bedding but I sleep on a futon on the floor. The carpet is a veritable haven for dust mites, dog and cat hair and dander etc. What if I am not sleeping because I'm allergic? I took Allegra last night and slept much better. I may still have sleep apnea. A sleep study will show if I am or not. I'm going to look today for some kind of a dust mite proof ground sheet to put under my futon today to see if something like that would help even more.

I rarely "gasped" only when I was startled dreaming but I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. That was 65 pounds ago. I'm sleeping a lot better now. I can't wear the masks and use the machine because of my allergies, asthma and sinus problems because I can't breath through my nose because of congestion and the mask makes it worse. I'm supposed to have another sleep study but I really don't want to - I've had two. I sleep fine and feel so much better now. Good luck.
