Went to the lab this morning

Saturday, August 31, 2013

I talked to my doctor this morning.....yep just picked up the cell phone and called her cell...told her about my symptoms and she told me to get some blood work done and urine test. She said that it could be a small flare up due to the tapering off of the prednisone. She had me call her again when I was at the lab so she could tell the lab what tests to do. I know if we move back to the states I would so miss the direct connection you have here with the doctors and how fast tests and such can happen. It is so comforting to know that you can simply email or call your doctor on their cell phones.

So I will wait for test results but for now am going to go with the fact that I am feeling off due to the tapering of prednisone. Thanks to many of you that also sent me emails saying that there can be side effects for this. I am still going out to walk the dogs today and keep well hydrated. I guess my body needs to figure out what is going on and just settle down. Trying hard to remain positive and just know this is all part of the autoimmune thing.

We will visit FIL today. See how he is doing. He was doing well when we saw him yesterday.

Didn't make it out for dinner like we planned last night. I just didn't have an appetite so we canceled. Didn't want to push it. Nice when you have dear friends that understand.

Hope all of you are doing well. Thank you all again for your comments and support. I do so treasure them!
Have a terrific Saturday and week end.
Sallie

Sounds like the possible FL move is still under consideration..? Would this include moving your FIL? Months ago I read an artcle that stated increasing numbers of concierge doctors are sprouting up throughout the States. But looking into referrals your own doctors makes may lead you to a GOOD autoimmune physician. The doctor who understands my issues (autoimmune and how the others interact with the fms!) best is a physiatrist. When my weird symptoms warrant, he knows how to get me to the right person. THAT is fantistic with autoimmune issues, because GPs and other specialists don't have that level of 'whole-person' approach. Like you, I've been sent hither and yon and do understand how scarey it is to lose the one person who actually is on track!

But you WILL find someone if you move to FL. Direct phone contact? Unless you get a concierge doc, that's not likely... especially if a specialist... unless you move to Small Town USA. This would be a good time to start researching possible options, so you aren't rushing when/if the move happens. The American Academy of Private Physicians (AAPP) sounds like an interesting starting point, but for GP only I think...

Hope the labs tell you what is happening. I feel very fortunate, I have my primary Doc's cell phone if I need it. Have used it on occasion and he calls into the pharmacy if need meds. House calls are a thing of the past here.

Wow! That kind of communication is long gone here in the states! Medical treatment is also very expensive here! So glad our insurance pays well.
Last winter when I was in Cuernavaca, I fell and my host took me to the Red Cross where I had an x-ray- saw the Dr. Immediately and the x-ray cost about $25 US! Big difference in cost! Feel better and I do hope this little set back is due to adjustments in the meds! emoticon

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well :( That is amazing you can get such immediate access to your Dr.'s and tests so quickly. Unheard of in North America for sure. You seem to get along well in Mexico in spite of not being able to speak their language, doubt I would be so brave. Maybe this is why your hubby would rather be back in the US?
Feel better soon,

I hope you feel better soon. There is no substitute for good medical care. I live in the states, and for the first time in my life I feel like I have a good team of doctors and a good place to turn for health issues. It's so rare, here, and I know I'm lucky.

Good luck and keep taking good care of yourself!
