Massage and Other Fronts

Friday, August 30, 2013

I had the best and longest massage of my life today, 1.5 hours. The highly respected sports massage therapist got the sore and tight spots in my left glute, piroformis, and surrounding muscles to relax. Right now I feel like a bowl of jello! And the massage ended 3 hours ago.

I bet tomorrow's 9 mile run will go well. I laughingly said I'm going to run at the pace of my left leg, instead of trying to make my left leg keep up with my right leg. May be some truth in that silly statement.

On other fronts, hubby repaired a closet shelf and I repaired several toys today. Decluttering efforts continue. I took a load of clothes, costume jewelry, material, buttons, yarn, etc. to Goodwill today. Now my sewing machine and jewelry box contain only things I love or at least will use. They are no longer crammed so full you can't find anything. Hurray!

As I cleaned out my jewelry box I realized that when I was 40-80 pounds heavier I wore large earrings, pins, and scarves that are now out of proportion on me. Some of the change is retirement, of course, but much of it truly is weight-loss related. I had not even realized that I have transitioned to smaller earrings, necklaces, and other accessories. Makes sense. Do you need to clean out your jewelry and accessories?

Two year old Gwen stayed with me while her daddy mowed the yard today. She really enjoyed meeting the six new family members who joined us yesterday: 6 tiny guppies. Some times I've had trouble timing when to put the pregnant guppy in the breeder, but this time I got it right. The little ones look strong, healthy, and safe in their floating plastic enclosure.

I'm really working on peace with the scale. I think my weight fluctuates more than average and often for no reason I can think of - like no overeating, no excess sodium, no change in fiber intake, and when elimination functions seem to be working just right. One day this week I weighed 127.8 and the next day, after a good eating day, I was at 130.4.This morning it was 129.2.In the last 8 days, 6 days I had a middle 2. OK. I just fluctuate. Peace. Peace. Really I weigh just about what I want to weigh. No sense in stressing over the scale. Focus on long term trends. Focus on eating smart, eating healthy. Focus on feeling good and fueling my body properly!!

The Curves meal plan I'm using and adapting are right in line with SparkPeople's recommendations. So far the meal days I've used seem practical and realistic.

Hope all Sparkers are having great days!!!

The massage sounds glorious! I'm not a big accessories/jewelry person, but I do need to declutter in other areas!

I never was one to use big accessories but I think that you're right about bigger people using bigger accessories. Now that you mention it, you can see my accessories more as I lose weight. I love massages too. They help move toxins out of the sore areas and promote healing. Enjoy your clean house!

Wonderful blog, Marsha, as usual! You really did give me pause for thought with this one. I had NO idea about the jewelry but it makes sense. I had wondered why I no longer liked long dangly earrings on me. THANK you for the explanation.

Decluttering feels SO good, doesn't it? Dh and I have been doing so twice each year for a few years. Couldn't bear to throw/give away all at once but now we are down to manageability for a move to warm climate in one or two years!

I had to leave my love affair with the scale a couple years was an addiction to I weigh NO more than once a week....and usually not that...if I HAVE to weigh I let DH weigh me and NOT tell me emoticon it just feels better to know someone knows.

I am thinking of buying that Curves Meal plan yet...not sure.

Have a blessed holiday weekend and take care of that leg! I'm rootin' for you as always! emoticon

Ha! I need to clean out my jewelry, too. When I taught at a community college I dressed up every day! Now I just rely on a pair of good earrings and one or two favorite bracelets. GLAD you enjoyed the massage, sounds wonderful...

    Awesome Marsha....
you said many things in your blog today that really hit home for me too., ie jewellery especially.

Also, my weight is staying in same 2-3 lbs. range now for 2 months, despite all the exercise I am doing...I've got almost 2500 fitness minutes this month, never ever did anything like that before.. I keep joking, I will wake up one a.m and be down 20 lbs, but I still look for the other proof that this is all working for good...

Al the best with your run tomorrow...

Very normal fluctuations . . . and very minor. I think it's that middle 2 thing -- if goal was 135 and fluctuations up and down around that number, maybe less distressing?? Just a thought.

When I clear out my summer clothes in sequence, i'm going to be taking a leaf from your book and "thrifting" the ones I haven't worn . . . reducing the clutter. As a 5'9" lady, however, can't say that being thinner means I need smaller accessories: still into the large tote size shoulder bags, and had a pretty chunky necklace on today.

emoticon to hear you got a great massage.

Nice to hear that you're going through old jewelry and donating to clear space. That's a great feeling.

Cute that you got some baby guppies! I'm sure your granddaughter is enjoying them! emoticon

Totally get the natural fluctuations on the scale. It happens to me, too.

And truth to tell, jealous of that massage. Good luck with tomorrow's run! emoticon

Marsha, we all fluctuate! So many things enter in and no two days are truly the same. The water we drink, or don't; elimination, or not; exercise, metabolism, mineral balance, time of day, etc. etc. Even the amount we perspire. That's why I have a goal "range" and consider myself at goal if I'm in that range. Glad the massage worked so well for you, you deserve that relaxation! Yes, I did clear out a lot of jewelry from bigger days and have given scarves away too; I keep it pretty simple today. But there's always more decluttering to do! Enjoy your weekend!

I fluctuate like you do, 2-3 lbs swings within a day...granted last night, I ate out, I know there was sodium involved. Peace is something sought after but hard to grab onto sometimes. That's r eally cool about the guppies!

I am glad to hear the massage went well.

I have several guppy tanks. I have a soft spot in my heart for them because I remember watching them with fascination when I was pretty young. My mother didn't keep them for long because she got tired of the water changes (this was way before there were all the convenient filtration systems we have today.) I have never used a breeder. My fish don't seem particularly aggressive towards the fry and there are always plenty in the tanks. I haven't had to purchase any new fish for years now.

My favorite guppy tank is a 40 gallon tank on my upstairs screened in porch. It's fun to have room for a large number of them together. Plus it allows for a nice large gene pool that minimizes inbreeding.
