Got cal from assisted living and hospital..mom is back in E.R.
I t looks like an infection of some sort,, her BP is okay, but her BS was 293 before eating breakfast.. she was just mumbling..
another brush with in competence:I call assisted living, tell director that I was returning an emergency call about mom going to the hospital,,she leaves me on hold for a minute, then tells me that nurse is busy on another line.. found out later she was talking with her family..

Call hospital and admitting puts me on hold,, I refuse to stay on hold longer than a minute anywhere, so I hang up.. Dd says, how will you know what is going on with Grandma? I tell her, don't worry, they have a dementia patient alone in a trauma room, cannot tie her down,,that means they have to watch her until I get there, they will call me back very fast. One minute later, phone rings. Same admitting lady,, wonders why I was not still on hold!!!!!!! Had the nads to actually say it..(it was twenty minutes later), I tell her why, she asks me if anybody is in the room with mom.. I tell her unless it is a nurse, then no,I am here, in my home(I had already told her that I was the only person in charge of mom and in town)..
I tell her to connect me with nurses desk and I will find her nurse,,she connects me with moms room, but then the phone goes dead. so again hang up.
Half hour later, I call admitting lady again, tell her not to say anything, just connect me with nurses desk. Nurse Dave, tells me mom has temp now and is sick, I ask if she most likely will be admitted,,he finally admits, yes, most likely..
It only took me X amount of phone calls and two hours of incompetence to find that out...

I knew that it was not an emergency for mom or I would just have driven there, but with their level of speed , I have plenty of time.. Will go there after dinner.. I know they have already done some tests, will check her for infections, and then put her in a room. Every time I go with mom to E.R.(a lot) she sleeps and I end up sitting in a hard chair for 7 or 8 hours..(she was the only patient in E.R at the time)
I am getting too old for this routine.. I have decided to let hospital staff watch her and I will be there later until my bedtime.. last time I worked around their slow schedule and I got sick with my diabetes and blood pressure.. no more..

When I worked there many years ago, I would have been reprimanded for that level of stupidity.. then fired... these are veteran workers..

This heat does not help my mood, but it has been a long day, up at four a.m.,, DD was mowing parents lawn when they called about her ..
I know I sound like an ingrate and whiner, but it has been years of this.. I just finished paying all of mom's bills and straightening her paperwork around for SS, Medicare, V.A. Bay County and her Pharmacy things,, ,, one needs a vacation just from the red tape and paperwork, let alone her home,,
after that last storm, another big branch fell just short of that new roof I had put on her house.. I do not need that to happen again...

I relate to this blog so much! I went through exactly this in 2004-2005 with my mom. The incompetence is scary nowadays...in EVERYTHING...and it is just ACCEPTED...dreadful.

Hope it all goes well with your mom...I feel for you, sweetheart, this blog brought back SO many memories!

Try to have a great weekend!

LINDA. I just love the way you can handle yourself in these matters. Well Done incompetence and stupidity just should not be around in a medical facility. Take care and well done Pat in Maine emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Glad this didn't happen in the middle of your vacation.

I guess it isn't acceptable to use a cattle prod or horse whip to get people moving.

Hope you can relax a little and get some rest tonight.

OMG! I am frustrated for you ... but I applaud (LOUDLY) your decision to let the staff (do their job) watch your Mom until you were ready to go there. Been in your boat so many times I've lost count.
And ......the PAPERWORK you speak of - how timely for me to read this today, after having been doing that same kind of red tape paper work for my Mom's situation since early this morning (it's now late afternoon) and find myself no where near the end of it! In fact, this paperwork is actually going to go on for several MONTHS (if not longer). So, I hear ya, girl. I hear ya loud and clear.

Anyway, reading this blog just made me feel so less alone in all this tangled up mess and having to deal constantly with people who are so horribly incompetent in their jobs!!!

Dang .... lets go slap some people!!! emoticon - OK?

You must feel so frustrated. I do hope things improve. I know my own Mom went through a series of UTIs, they finally improved when the care home realised she needed to drink more.......

Hope your weekend isn't too disrupted and that your stress levels drop.
